Energy Resistance and the Environment

I know in 3.5 fire and cold resistance allowed you to resist the effects of cold and hot environments thus allowed to fore go Endure Elements and the like. Does that still apply to pathfinder?

Energy resistance will reduce damage from that type of energy. In an environment of Extreme Heat, resist fire 5 will reduce the amount of fire damage taken each minute. It will not reduce the non-lethal damage taken every 5 minutes if you fail your Fort save.

Interestingly, all of the cold environmental effects do not deal cold damage (only lethal or non-lethal), so resist cold will do nothing for you.
