Dot in and start the inevitable discussions about chargen and so on here. I will set up a gameplay thread shortly.
Once I have an idea of numbers I will look at whether to include anyone else. I am trying to persuade one of my former tabletop group onto these forums - please be nice to her if she does show up :)
As I said in the other thread, this module comes with 5 new backgrounds which tie in to the start of the game. Ideally you will pick one of these rather than from the CRB, but if none of them appeals then let me know as I'm fairly relaxed about this and I'm sure we can cook something up that will work. Also ideally, you would each pick a different background so there's some variety, but again I am relaxed about this.
You are the youngest child in a noble house (in Cheliax, Isger, or Andoran) and stand to inherit nothing from your family. Although you have a minor title, it affords you no lands or wealth, but it has garnered you a small amount of respect and deference in your travels.
When play begins, you are riding in a caravan bound for Almas, where a cousin has promised to allow you to stay with them for a month.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Dexterity or Intelligence, and one is a free ability boost. You are trained in the Diplomacy skill and the Heraldry Lore skill. You gain the Hobnobber skill feat.
You were training to become a knight in Lastwall when the Whispering Tyrant escaped his imprisonment and destroyed the nation. It was only by dumb luck that you are alive at all, but the memories of that fateful day haunt your dreams.
When play begins, you have boarded a caravan heading toward a new town, having worn out your welcome at the taverns and inns of Elidir.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Strength or Charisma, and one is a free ability boost. You are trained in the Intimidate skill and the Warfare Lore skill. You gain the Intimidating Glare skill feat.
You received training from clergy in a faraway temple, who sent you out into the world to spread the faith. Although you are relatively new at this, you are always on the lookout for new places in need of your deity’s teachings and guidance.
When play begins, you are riding along in a caravan making your waythrough sparsely populated regions of Isger, spreading the news of your faith to those who will listen.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Constitution or Wisdom, and one is a free ability boost. You are trained in the Diplomacy and Scribing Lore skills. You gain the Group Impression skill feat.
The fighting around the Lake Encarthan region has forced many of the people residing there to flee from the violence. Although your home is gone, you have managed to survive and are making your way south in search of a better life.
When play begins, you are riding along in a caravan taking you to what might be either a new home in Andoran or simply another waypoint in your journey.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Constitution or Intelligence, and one is a free
ability boost. You are trained in the Survival skill and the Hunting Lore skill. You gain the Forager skill feat.
You left your home a few months back for a life on the road, working for one caravan company and then another, always on the lookout for a new job and a better life. Last week, you were hired by the Bort Bargith’s company in Elidir. You don’t know anyone from the company just yet, but most of its members seem to be honest merchants and traders.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Strength or Wisdom, and one is a free ability boost. You are trained in the Nature skill and the Mercantile Lore skill. You gain the Train Animal skill feat.
I will put more information up in a bit.
Okay, here's the preliminary character sheet for my elf cleric of Calistria. I built it using Pathbuilder 2E app. Please look it over to see if it looks okay. Everything should be there except prepared spells.
HERITAGE VERSATILE (gain one general feat)
BACKGROUND LESSER SCION (+2 CHA & DEX, Hobnobber feat, trained in diplomacy+heraldry lore)
[T] Fort +4 [T] Ref +5 [E] Will +5
Heritage Intimidating Glare (visual instead of auditory, no -4)
Ancestry Bardic Lore (Trained in all Lore)
Bard Lingering Composition
[T] Bardic Lore
[T] Heraldry Lore
Compositions: Lingering Composition (1 focus, DC 15 Performance to make the performance last 3 rounds, 4 on a crit success, no focus cost if fail), Inspire Courage (1 action, 60ft emanation, +1 status to attack, damage and saves vs fear)
0: (5) Telekinetic Projectile, Forbidding Ward, Daze, Dancing Lights, Join Pasts
1: (2) Soothe, Phantom Pain, Magic Weapon
Muse Maestro (the long-dead poet Patrè Polo)
Giuseffe D'Azzo is a gloomy poet who, after finding out he's not going to inherit a single penny, figured it would be best to set into the world armed with poetry and the knowledge the end will come for us all no matter what. Think an overly serious and prickly artiste from a noir movie, who loves nothing more than to smoke a cigarette on stage as the audience waits for him to start his performance. The joke being, of course, that *this* is the performance. Nobody understands true art these days.
Crunch-wise he is a support bot who can aid another on lore checks when out of combat and orate depressing and poignant poetry when in combat to make sure his companions finish the job sooner rather than later because there's no way they're going to die like *this*.

Huh. I'm actually impressed. You've managed to be late even to a virtual tabletop :p
(I'm really glad you decided to join us. It'll be good to catch up)
Anyway, to answer the questions from your email: this thread that I linked you to is the "Discussion" thread. Here we discuss character build, questions about the rules, weather, life, other things that aren't directly related to the game.
If you scroll up, you'll see a bunch of tabs: Campaign Info, Gameplay, Recruitment, Players, Characters.
Ignore everything for now except Gameplay. If you post in there, the campaign will show up on your page and you will be able to keep track of it.
There is a format for posting in gameplay. Thankfully you aren't the first n00b I've coached through this so I'm linking you to my earlier explanation (click here).
In answer to your questions about how dice rolling is handled, click here.

Taking a quick late lunch before I head back to the lab, where I'll be most the rest of today and tomorrow. So if you don't hear from me, that's why - I haven't suddenly run off.
Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to creating another character to be devoured/mangled/irreparably maimed in your usual manner, James. (OK, that's not entirely fair but...) It looks like you have a cleric, bard and fighter so maybe another melee character? I've been wanting to play a paladin of Abadar for a while now so this seems like a good opportunity.
Thanks for the primer on how you play this online. Creating characters/avatars and so on seems like something that's best explained in-person - James, are you free for a Skype call Saturday morning to talk me through it?

@Sarah: No problem - although if you could use my 'stage name' that would be great ;)
@Giuseffe: It's not clear how your Heritage feat is Intimidating Glare, or how your Ancestry feat is Bardic Lore. Could you instead put e.g. General Training (Intimidating Glare)? It just makes it easier for me to spot what choices you have made. Also, it looks like you have 1 too many languages and not enough hit points - you get hitpoints from your Ancestry as well as your Class in PF2.
@Everyone: Given that this is a stand-alone adventure I don't need reams of background or personality description, but a few lines would be helpful in setting up the hook for this adventure.
Sure. Apparently I made a booboo as most of the Bard feats are locked behind Muse choices and it isn't until level 2 that Giu can pick up Multifarious Muse to gain Bardic Lore. Bardic Lore is tied to the Enigma muse.
I'll have to think about what feat I'll select instead.
And a Champion sounds good to me! Having two dedicated melee combatants in a group of four surely won't hurt.
OK, think I'm good to go. Thanks WW for your help :)
(can I quickly just check that you are planning to run this as-written? This isn't one of your weird, same-name-but-nothing-alike adventures, right?)
Giuseffe is the third son of a Chelish nobody. Sure, the man rocks the title of baron, but the Goblinblood Wars made sure that what lands he rules aren't worth a damn. Being the third son, Giuseffe had every excuse available to him to move abroad and study the classics: poetry, string instruments, the harpsichord, and alcohol tolerance. It is the latter which delayed his graduation for quite some time, but after a solid eight years abroad - traveling from one Chelish city to the other - Giuseffe returned home only to find out he now hates the hovel he's from even more than he already did.
Armed with nothing more than crushed dreams, a dull rapier, and a handful of esoteric occult knowledge, he has set out to make a name for himself. And if that is to fail, at least he will have enough stories to sell to ensure he can drown himself in an ocean of booze.
Style-wise, he borrows heavily from 'cool' noir artistes: black is not just fashionable, it *is* fashion, and one must not show too much excitement. A visible lack of excitement is the very definition of cool.
This may or may not be subject to change when I wake up tomorrow and give it another proper go.
Yeah, color me less than impressed with how much info HLO doesn't put into its statblocks. I'll have to spend some time tomorrow to fill out Dar's profile with some real information - as well as his backstory.
|Wandering GM Wastrel|
@Shaumatiel - that background works for me :)
@Giuseffe - background likewise looks good. Still need your gear and Offence/Defence (see Dar Iono or Fliss profiles to see what I mean.
@Dar Iono - I hear you. Never seen the point of HL, the output it provides is fairly sh*tty to my eye. Writing it out longhand is a pain but at least you get the information in the order you wanted it rather than what The Machine decides to give you.
@Everyone - please can you put any Reactions you may have into your stat-line? It will help me remember to account for them in combat, possibly.
Dar and Shaumatiel might know each other, but I don't think she would have had previous ties with either Fliss or Giuseffe.
Updating stat line, and will transcribe full character sheet into profile later today.

It actually doesn't hurt. It's the part after, where your body tries to adjust to its new reality and your muscles try to settle back in, that just drains you completely. But thank you!
Profile > edit > put this in the 'race' field:
Male Medium Human Bard 1 | HP: 17/17 | AC: 16/16 | F: +4, R: +5, W: +5| Lore +5, Per +5, Occult/Society +7| Speed 25ft | Focus 2/2| 1st: 2/2 | Active Conditions: none
Just change the bits to reflect your character, and tada! :D
