As the title says, why is Quicken literally useless? In exchange for one action, I remove one action I get to cast one action quicker, if it's already 2 or more actions to cast. Is it an ingame intelligence test, if you take it, you're too dumb to be a wizard?
You're confused with the action logos.
A solid action symbol means it's one action, with multiples chained together costing that many actions to use (usually a maximum of 3).
If it's just an outline with no solid fill-in, then it's a free action, usually coming with a trigger.
This feat used to basically be a "free 3-hero-points" activity for spellcasters, granting a free action for another spell or to move out of a dangerous situation or whatever.
However, with the newly released game getting rid of that use of hero points, the power and versatility of this feat skyrocketed since it cannot be replicated elsewhere.

I've been wondering if we should have a meta-discussion about the forums. I see a trend of combativeness on the forums, and in other places online, that deserves some attention.
Starting a thread with a superior tone seems like it's tied into a fear of seeming lesser. That if you don't have some level of snark, you're baring your throat to the wild forum goers who will laugh at you. Maybe it's an attempt to fit in with the smart alecks here.
In any case, I keep seeing otherwise smart, thoughtful posters reduced to incoherence because they feel threatened. Like every comment is being judged by a multitudinous hivemind looking for either agreement or amusement, and you're fighting for points.
