It is in the same way most evil corporation types of organizations RESEMBLE the Mafia in terms of behavior. But they're ACTUAL businessmen, not just LEGITIMATE businessmen. There's usually not familial ties between Consortium members, just financial ones.

They’re sort of like the mafia mixed with the worst of the various colonial trading companies, the type who will kill everyone and burn down everything on two islands so they have a monopoly on the third. Profit at any cost.

They are the Archeologists that work with the Nazis in Indiana Jones mixed in with the East India Company.

They're good guys with an unjust bad reputation.

"That's a really nice consolidated financial statement you've got there. It'd be a real shame if someone added an adjusting journal entry to it."

I took them as a combination of the Mafia and the Dutch East India Company: https://youtu.be/zPIhMJGWiM8

Anyone who sees the Aspis Consortium as in any way meaningfully different than the Pathfinder Society is deluded. IMHO
