Paizo Inc. YouTube releases, 29 at a time!

Paizo General Discussion

I'm only too happy to have Paizo release videos via YouTube, I'm no great fan of using Twitch as a platform.

What I'm not so impressed by is to have 29 Paizo Inc. YouTube videos all being released at the same time. It seems the bulk of the Paizon GenCon output has been dumped all at once, each video being about 40 to 50 minutes.

I'm sure releasing these 29 videos over a period of time, such as one or two a day, would be fair more acceptable to people than suddenly being deluged with 25 hours worth in one go. As it stands, I'm sure people will just gloss over them and not pay much attention to any particular one. In a week or so, they will be forgotten, which is a shame.

Releasing them over a period of time might result in better viewing figures and it gives a chance to notice the separate topics as they are released. A regular release schedule tends to attract more views.

So, thank you for the releases, but please don't make this this a regular occurrence. I personally don't think this is a good way to try and grow the YouTube channel, it will most likely work against you.

You know you can watch them anytime you want, right? You don't have to watch them all at once.

Really! Gosh, I never know that! Just to be clear, that was sarcasm.

Otherwise, thank you but you seem to miss the point.

That seems to be your point: that you personally disagree with Paizo's marketing department on the best way to market their product.

You're entitled to your opinion, which may, indeed, be based on a professional background and more than 10 years experience in marketing a tabletop role playing game. You may have more expertise than all of the Paizo staff and owners put together.

Or maybe not.

I agree with you, it's just my opinion.

If Paizo released 29 hardback books on the same day and then nothing for a year, I would suggest that it's bad marketing. I suspect that Paizo's marketing department might agree with that, after all, they are an experienced publisher and know how to sell books.

I'm not sure the same marketing department deals with the release schedule of YouTube videos. I'm also not so sure they are as experienced in this field as they are in the field of publishing RPG books.

But that's just my opinion. I offered some constructive criticism, take that for what it's worth :)

I started watching the content on twitch and now I will continue to watch it on Youtube! The more the better! Sooner and faster! Hate waiting every week for Oblivion Oath and Knights of the Everflame, but love the shows!

To be fair - many of the Gencon panels are time sensitive/dependent data. Several of the videos include 'preview' data for the Inner Sea World Guide, if its already out before those videos hit, that part is less useful.

I think the 25 hours should be weekly amount of content because I listen to podcasts/audiobooks a lot quicker than I read with 2-4 hours of commuting a day ...

They're not releasing 29 at once and then nothing for a year though. They release Oblivion Oath every week, they also will continue to release Starfinder Wednesday and Pathfinder Friday content weekly since those shows are back, and there will be more content at other cons as well.

Back in my day you actually had to go to Gencon to experience the seminars.... xD

With that said, It is pretty awesome of Know Direction and Paizo to put the resources in recording these and making them available to the public. The fact they uploaded them all at the same time is a non-issue.

It’s good to have them released like that. I was watching the multi-session ones on twitch but after they added in the advertising it always resets to the beginning and I have to figure if I was 5 hours in or just 4. I don’t know if that’s a general problem or just an iPad problem.

If it was entirely new content, like their other stuff, then, yes releasing it all at once would be bad marketing. These were broadcast seminar events and choose which order to watch them in a timely manner.

Well, this thread proves people will complain about anything.

I categorically disagree with the OP.

Paizo, please release as much content as you like.

For those of us who have never been on the Paizo Twitch or YouTube channels what do you all recommend as a starting point for fine viewing?

Depends on what you'd like to watch. If you want an actual play campaign, Oblivion Oath is great. If you want Pathfinder stuff, pick a Pathfinder Friday with a topic that interests you. If you like Starfinder stuff, pick a Starfinder Wednesday. For Convention panels, I love the Secrets of Golarion panels the most.

Oblivion Oath: home campaign or AP?

Jason Bulmahn DMing four Paizo staffmembers (with a little bit of cast rotation).

It’s not an AP. There have been mutterings about eventually releasing some version of it down the track, but it’s not an available adventure at this stage.

Sounds fun! 1E or 2E?

And while it's not an AP, it's not really a home campaign either, as it's still going to be canon for the setting whatever happens, I believe

Thanks!

If you look over the twitch page there’s quite a bit of PF1 and Starfinder content, if you prefer. Paizo have “moved on” officially, as far as I can see, but they’re still happy to host some ongoing PF1 campaigns.

OP, they are employees, they all have their jobs to do. As others have stated, the information was time-sensitive, or at least some of it. Just guessing here, but they all have their roles to fulfill at their job. They can’t tailor their online imprint to everyone’s needs or wants. Just try to look at things from both sides. To me, it sounds as if you enjoy to watch or listen to their products at your own leisure. There is nothing wrong with that. However, others devour Paizo’s content so quickly, that the company can’t put them out fast enough. Just take your time, enjoy them at your leisure. Remember, while this may be the age of instant gratification, there are much more people than just us out there. Happy Gaming!
