I've been toying with the backstory for a new Kasathan who is either an outlaw or pirate or something of that nature and I am considering what sorts of lore reasons someone might be pushed out of their place on the Idari.
I am also toying with some naming ideas for an exiled Kasathan what I've come up with is something inspired by the bastard names in A Song of Ice and Fire. Only instead of geography it would be based on sin
So the name might be something like Altronus Blood for a murderer.

Altronus Smiler. Crime. Showing face in public
Altronus Cat. Too lazy to put in his required shifts in the waste reclamation center
Altronus Sleeper fell asleep on watch duty or monitoring an important pressure valve
Altronus airlock : Messed up and spaced some people out an airlock. Or maybe just precious air.
Altronus Streams: got drunk and defaced a culturally signifigant rock

Less humorously. . . given the importance Kasatha society places on legacy, not so much in bloodline as in record of deeds? Defamation would be a *serious* crime. Now, simple insults, or plausible allegations, or such? Those are one thing. However, imagine something much more malignant, where you attempt to frame someone else for defamatory and infamous deeds. I could easily see this as being viewed as a worse crime than to actually commit the deed itself. Better to be a murderer, than to attempt to falsely defame someone as a murderer.
Thus, Altronus Slander. For he attempted to erase the truth from the name of another, so shall his name forever after have no other truth but this.

Kasatha society is bound up with cryptic points of honor. Anything might have caused him to live in exile. The actual event is of little import - non-Kasatha would never understand anyway.
What does matter is the impact that it had on the character - and also the extent of his 'exile'. Is he a criminal infamous to other Kasatha? Has the shame he brought onto his house sufficient that they are seeking him to avenge their honor? Can he ever hope to return? Was it a mistake? Was it intentional?
I also like UnArcaneElection's take that he was framed.
These are the important questions. You don't have to bother explaining the crime, just the punishment and its impact on the character.
