Does the Amulet of a Shield Guardian Golem take up the neck slot?

If it takes up the neck slot, then would I be allowed to make it a Magical Tattoo?


Neck slot, yes. It is a magic item.
I don't know much about tattoos in-game. What source are you thinking about?

Inscribe Magical Tattoo is what I was talking about for the Magical Tattoos.


The way that is written, yes you can get it as a tattoo. If the GM allows that book as a source.

I personally would say no. I don't object to the tattoo part of it, but I think that if you want to double up on magic slots, you should have to pay the extra gp for it. And I am a pretty liberal GM, so don't be surprised if your GM says no.

Evaluating the advantage and drawbacks I would price as adding a new power to a slotted item, i.e., x1.5 the standard price.


Shield guardians are designed to serve as bodyguards. When created, a shield guardian is keyed to a magical amulet that is constructed at the same time as (and as part of the cost of) the guardian. Henceforth, it regards the wearer of that amulet as its master, protecting and following that individual everywhere (unless specifically commanded not to do so).

While it is a magical amulet, it does not say it takes up the neck slot.

Magical tattoos are treated as slotless magical items for pricing purposes.

Clearly, tattoos cost double normal items.

Tattoos have some benefits:
1) Harder to steal* or sunder.
2) You can tattoo rings with the same feat.

As a GM, I would rule the amulet as slotless. I would also rule that it cannot be a tattoo as it is part of the guardian and not a separate magic item.
