Does Barbarian Weapon Specialization applies only when raging?

Your rage helps you hit harder. You deal an additional 2 damage with weapons and unarmed attacks in which you have expert proficiency. This damage increases to 3 if you’re a master, and 4 if you’re legendary. You gain your instinct’s specialization ability.

Flavor text says it's your rage that helps you hit harder, but the rest seems to imply you get that all the time. It doesn't matter that much I guess as you don't seem to be too limited for raging as before so should be able to rage pretty much all the time unless you're fatigued.

Agreed, it seems kind of unclear, with fluff suggesting connection to rage, but not clearly applying only in rage. I think it isn't actually meant to be limited to Rage, although each Instinct grants further benefits keyed to Specialization which do depend on actually Raging. I think that is only part meant to be Rage-specific, and otherwise you do get vanilla benefits of Specialization in or out of Rage.

I would hit the FAQ button, but you know, they don't have it yet for 2E ;-)

Are instinct spec. and weapon spec. cumulative during a rage or does instinct override/include weapon spec.?

Seems only while raging, if you check the higher rank combined with the instinct sheet

Sorry, I don't unterstand this. Is this an answer to the OP or to my question?

I know that the instinct ability works only while raging, and it is unclear if weapon spec. is always active or also only during a rage.

So I want to know if the boni are added up during a rage or if instinct already includes the damage of weapon spec.

Weapon Spec does not seem to need your rage to function, else it would say something like, "Your rage helps you hit harder. You deal an additional 2 damage with weapons and unarmed attacks with which you have proficiency when you enter a rage." Also note that it calls out 'weapons,' not 'melee weapons' as the rage action does, which means you'd suddenly be tracking different values of damage for melee and ranged weaponry, which seems odd and not in the spirit of streamlining bonuses that PF2 is going for.

And yes, Weapon Spec and rage's bonuses do stack. They are both untyped, and one comes from your rage trait while the other does not.

Agreed on all counts.
