Looking forward to the oracle. If I had to say, which was the best-designed class of PF1 among the new classes, it was definitely the Oracle.

60 archetypes, that book is going to be as loaded as the original APG (the game changer of PF1).

Woo hoo!!

Ye!

Also in addition to getting new art for the Iconics one is getting replaced, which I don't know how to feel about since those 4 are some of my favourites.

Oh hey, looks like we're getting our Lucky Martial class after all. :p

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Oh good, witch is by far my favorite class from first edition!

Silver Crusade

Yeah it's my favourite caster.

I wonder how Investigator is gonna be handled.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

That was a lot faster than I had thought. I'm not sure a release this quick is wise - I think it would be neat to get to play around with the core properly before adding more stuff.

If they're swapping out one of the iconics they should trade out one of the Humans for a greenskin. A hobgoblin iconic would actually be pretty cool.

Silver Crusade

It'd probably be Freiya if I have to guess, but then I'm not happy since design wise I love her, but then I love all of them.

Playtest in OCTOBER??? :-O

They specifically said Feiya was safe, so that leave Quinn, Lirianne, and Alahazra and her huge hat.

10 people marked this as a favorite.

An Orc Oracle from the Mwangi culture would be pretty cool... An Orcacle, if you will.

All right I need to stop before I inevitably disappoint myself when the new iconic is just another human

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's the playtest, the book is not going to come out until at least sometime next year (maybe even until next gencon).

We all know that Paizo will keep the same pace that they had with PF1, so we will get new materials every month anyway.

Investigator, somehow I think that they are going to drop the alchemy.

60 archetypes...guessing the Ninja will make a come back as an archetype and probably some other popular choices.

This all sounds fantastic!

Oh they did? Huh (my stream was spotty).

Crap this is like askin who's your favourite child >_>

Releases in about a year, but playtesting of the new 4 classes in October. We'll have plenty of time to speculate the 60 archetypes!

9 people marked this as a favorite.

July - Advanced Player's Guide
- Investigator, Oracle, Swashbuckler, Witch (October playtest)
- 8 new ancestry - Aasimar, Catfolk, Changeling, Duskwalker, Dhampir, Kobold, Orc. Ratfolk, Tiefling, Tengu
- New spells, archetypes (60) and other fun stuff
(pirate, acrobat, duelist, beast master, bounty hunter, poisoner, scout, assassin)

Hmm, i wonder if Investigator and Inquistior will get combined, with Monk-like options to make them divine?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I did not have Investigator and Swashbuckler on my bingo card for "added in the first round of classes"... but honestly this probably comes down to more "we have a clear idea how to do this" than anything else.

With Aasimar, Changelings, Dhampir, and Tieflings being announced as ancestries, does this mean we're not doing them as a "heritage for any ancestry" option? Or perhaps we're doing both.

I was hoping magus and inquisitor would be two of the first to return, but at least Oracle is getting brought back quick

My best guess at the iconic that'll be changed, it's probably Jirelle, the Swashbuckler - mostly based on how Erik Mona talked about how the class would function, which seems to fit a slightly changed iconic.
The next one could be Quinn, simply based on age (he was originally already middle age).
There's also a case to be made for Alahazra - it seems like they might have to make an iconic that's a bit different due to the class having to differentiate itself from the sorcerer's new construction.

They did specifically mention that with the new ancestries you could make e.g. an elf-aasimar (or a dwarf-aasimar).

Interestingly, they actually said there would be more than the 8 ancestries.

Hmm, that kinda lends credence to them being Heritages then though.

Could you give us some more details on this? I'm very curious to hear what the new Swashbuckler is going to look like, given that the old one was... not great.

Way people have been envisioning it is "Aasimar" or like "Angelkin" were heritages you could pick for an elf, but I wonder if this is backwards, where "Elf-kin" is a heritage you could take for an Aasimar.

So is the playtest going to be just for the new classes or will it feature some of the archetypes, heritages, spells, etc?

He said something to the tune of it being the most mobile and agile class, being able to do things all the other classes would be envious of. And that it was going to be great to see all that in the 3 action economy.

His description sounded more like an acrobat-type character.

Very happy to hear about being able to playtest a Witch! (fav class)

A bit surprised to hear about Swashbucklers though. I knew Oracle was too popular to skip & figured that Investigators where thematic enough to retool, but always felt that Swashbucklers were a bit lacking as a class. It'll be interesting to see what's done with them.

Somewhat surprised that there was no mention of Magus - but I'm kinda hoping they'll be somewhere in the 60 archetypes.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm happy Swashbucklers are going to get more attention this time around, as it was a class with a very large gulf between "how much fun the thematics were" and "how much fun the mechanics were" last go around. But just the whole "spells don't regularly obsolete skills" and action economy of PF2 give the class a new lease on life.

Silver Crusade

I can see the reason for Swashbuckler, with the new action system they really have the oppurtinity to make it shine this time.

And Investigator they probably want to show off more Alchemy stuff and Skills.

Liberty's Edge

Iconic change, I see 2 likely candidates. The Swashbuckler has little character identity. The Oracle has too revealing clothes.

Good to see that playtesting will be used again.

Very sad to see Inquisitor not here, and stunned Magus isn’t. But the 60 archetypes made me giddy, and I’m glad to see pretty much every ancestry on the list. Actual orcs! Dhampir!

They said on the stream that the planetouched ones were going to be heritages. They were a bit cagey about whether they would be completely universal, but they're supposed to be available for multiple ancestries at least.

Will we get the fabled three halves? Half Human, Half Orc, Half Celestial

150% PC ;-p

I predict Lirianne gets the chop, with the Retconhammer, in the Designpit.

Changelings, Kobolds, Oracle, Investigator. . . My heart. . . Can’t. . . Handle. . .

Maybe not with half-orc, but possibly with half-elf through the elf atavism ancestry feat.

Age shouldn't be a factor in retiring iconics after a mere decade of Pathfinder, so Quinn ought to be safe.

Alahazra's clothing issue can be taken care of by a new outfit (but if Seoni survived, why shouldn't Alahazra?). She could be in trouble if they redid the Oracle's Curse in a way that makes her clouded vision curse no longer work.

I think Jirelle might be the one who is on the chopping block for a very simple reason -- We actually don't have a clear picture of what she is supposed to look like, as her skin color varies drastically from one image to the next.

This is wonderful! I'm particularly pleased with Investigator and the list of Ancestries/Heritages.

Sweet. I'm hoping for more alchemical items. LIke some of the weirder ones from P1. liquid Blade, the splash weapon cantrop.. which I guess would be a bomb. that doens't have splash but instead makes Caltrops (which I would assume do Splash damage).

I am wondering how the "planetouched are heritages, not ancestries" are going to handle the Aasimar in parts of Tian Xia or Tieflings in parts of Cheliax/New Sarkoris who grow up pretty much surrounded exclusively by their own kind. Like you might be genetically mostly human or whatever, but you might not have much in common with others of your kind.

I'd personally say that was the Alchemist, but Oracle was very close.

Swashbuckler and Investigator are interesting picks and two of my favorite classes (Swashbuckler more in concept than in execution, but still). I'm staying with 1E, but I hope for you guys that they turn out well.

With lvl 1 Ancestry feats, just like Elf Atavism for Half-Elf.

It's time for a KOBOLD ICONIC!!!

Of everything mentioned in this thread, I think I am most excited for plane-touched races and 60 archetypes.

Swashbuckler could be fun, but there is no telling what it is going look like mechanically, so I am cautiously optimistic. Mobility martial, without monk's baggage, sounds fun.
