I doubt this. I'd speculate that, like in PF1, what an Investigator is gonna be really good at it getting a bonus (probably an Item bonus, but maybe Status) on literally every Skill when they need them, making them the best at being like 'Oh, is there a Skill check? I can make that.' They won't outshine specialists in Skill X unless they're also specialized in that Skill as well, but they'll be able to be better at it than any non-specialist.

That was their role in PF1 in most ways, and it's a role not really covered in PF2, so it seems a likely direction for the Class to go in.

The only things preventing using a gun at lvl 1 is lack of rules and getting access to one (rarity).

Do we know if the playtest will include any ancestries/heritages?

Based on past playtests, I would assume that they are playtesting the new classes and nothing else.

Archetypes unlock at level 2. If the means of getting proficiency is locked behind an archetype (IE it's an uncommon weapon) then it is impossible for a level 1 character to be proficient in firearms.

You might be able to swing a Human with Unconventional Weaponry, I suppose.

Seeing +level removal would be very interesting.

I'm pretty sure the various tweaks to the proficiency system are going to be discussed in the GMG, since there is basically nothing to test.

My bad, I misread the item summaries over on ENWorld.

I guess that is good news, since the GMG comes out sooner.

But apologies, ignore my comment.
Thanks

I would like the Occultist to return, and they could reintroduce a form of resonance.

Don't forget that Class Archetypes can alter level 1 features (such as base proficiencies). If Gunslinger is a Class Archetype for the Swashbuckler, for example, there'd be no problem.

Well, that and easily getting Legendary in Knowledge checks are obvious things that don't undermine other people with Legendary. Could be more unique mechanics that intersect with but don't invalidate Legendary Skill Feats. Personally it's a topic which plausibly does intersect alot with other/general Skill use, but I feel like they have specific mechanics in mind which we'll soon enough see.

But if they want other classes to potentially be good with guns, they would need to come up with another way to handle it. A lot could depend on how they classify various firearms as simple/martial/advanced and common/uncommon/rare. If at least some firearms are common and not advanced, 1st level characters could have them.

Guns will all almost 100% certainly be uncommon or rare.

However, I would be surprised if simple guns like pistols are muskets aren't martial.

That combination means that a 1st level fighter can use guns without any special archetype or training, but needs to ask their GM in order to start with a gun. Everything about how Paizo has treated guns before tells me that is by far the most likely outcome.

In particular I don't think any gun will ever be common, because Paizo knows that some GMs don't like guns so they will want to keep them as an explicitly optional thing.

I am very excited by this. I hope the playtest for the new classes drops soon I am eager to see what they will be doing with all four in this new edition but especially the oracle and the witch.

Dataphiles

Is this where we start doing a countdown until the end of the month to put more pressure on the editorial team to get the playtest out?

Also kind of curious as to when this is going 'live'.

Is it going live on October 31st?

Is it already live and unannounced being handled 'in-house' like 'Ultimate Wilderness'?

What's the timeframe for the playtest?

How will it be reported?

What is eligible to be reported for it?

No, Jason has said that was a bad call at some point.

Every book goes through in-house playtesting and discussion to some degree. Imagine the rage of invested nerds if they got a totally raw product to carefully and in considerate manner elaborate their opinions.

Jason Bulmahn just announced that the playtest most likely won't launch by the end of October.

As for the playtest...

It looks like we are going to miss the end of October Deadline.. but just by a little. I will give you all a firm date when we have it.

This is on me folks... I am trying to ensure that we get these things right and that is taking a bit more time than we expected. I would have let you know sooner, but I just had to change the schedule in this mornings coordination meeting, so you are getting the news as soon as I had it.

Thanks for understanding. We will get you more info very soon.

There's a slighly more detailed timeframe given by Jason on reddit:

We are targeting the Errata for next week and the APG playtest for the week after that. Going as fast as we can on these, but I want to make sure we get them right. Sorry for the delay.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the oracle. Compared to first ed there's not much difference between an oracle and a 2nd ed divine sorcerer. So I am very curious to see how they differentiate the two.

Are we looking at the beginning of November then? IIRC that was about the time that the playtest came out for the 1E Advances Player's Guide.

Silver Crusade

Yep.

Jason's posting is from yesterday, so that means that the errata would be coming out between October 28th and November 1st and the APG playtest would be coming out between November 4th and November 8th.

I was really hoping that he had posted this last week, but accurate info is always better than false hope, I guess.

It seems very likely that being from the Mana Wastes region would allow Common access to guns, which would also consequently allow for humans of any heritage to get access as well, via Unconventional Weaponry.

The Playtest should drop sometime this week?

Any thoughts on which day?

I'd assume Wednesday, at least given that the GMG mosnter rules and the errata also were put out on Wednesdays.

(Though not gonna lie, I'd love for it to be out sooner, if possible...)

The blog today says they will discuss this on Friday. Hopefully we will get it before the twitch stream so we can ask good questions!

Am I the only one pressing F5 at the front page every 30 minutes or so?

You should have the playtest drop before the[Friday's] stream.

Could anyone tell me where is the APG Playtest gonna be posted when it is up? Or should I just reload the main page until the Announcement appears there?

There'll most likely be an announcement on the main page or a predominant blog covering with a download link.
