Let us know if you guys are able to do that kineticist event and when it's happening! First day of Paizocon, woohoo!

I'm pretty sure Vanessa is running two sessions of it and both are full, but I believe there's a way you can watch the play sessions too. I'll see what I can find out and circle back to post here.

Hey everyone!

The Legendary Kineticist for Pathfinder Second Edition is coming along nicely. Even while building the pre-gen NPCs for my preview game, I've noticed some typos, missing text, and things that needed to be re-worded. I want to make sure this is a solid class for you to enjoy.

I think you'll love how we played around with Gather Power, Burn, and the 3-action system.

That said, you should see the book released next month if all goes well.

As for the two scheduled games, those are both full, but I'll likely be running some pick-up games this weekend as well.

Oh I misunderstood. I thought there was going to be a reveal of the class more like a panel, not games being played. Oh well I'm still looking forward to seeing it

If folks want to glean some information... here are 5 of the Pregens available for play during the adventure:

Avery (they/them) - Human Telekineticist
Briella Bambrix (she/her) - Gnome Geokineticist
Sluner Whitecap (he/him) - Halfling Hydrokineticist
Targa Forgeheart (she/her) - Dwarf Pyrokineticist
Zed Highwind (he/him) - Elf Aerokineticist

SOOOOOOON!

Essentially you can give up 1 action now to not have to pay a focus point (Gather Power) or you can give up 2 actions next turn to not have to pay a focus point (Burn). Or... give up 0 actions and just pay for the 1 focus point.

It should make for some interesting strategic decisions at the table...

I love that it gives it flexibility without having to track hp drain or whatever, but is still dangerous! I do see a couple small things that are probably just mistakes on the character sheet (legendary kineticist spellcasting at level 5 sounds like maybe it's wrong, slick not being a focus spell, etc) but they're just tiny mistakes you've probably already noticed.

The defensive talents are all super cool, tweaked to work in second edition but similar to 1e. Creative uses of stuff there.

Weapon infusion is especially cool, I was a little confused until I saw the minute duration!! So you could spend your first turn 'summoning' it for free, then have a weapon with whichever feat you picked. Cost you a turn but still awesome.

This might be my favourite part of paizocon

I have a couple concerns, but I'll wait for the full class to be released before going into them. No sense viewing with alarm when the actual text might already address it.

I'm not wholly fond of kinetic blast being 1 action by default though. Depending on what the multiclass dedication gives, that might make it a mandatory pickup for blaster casters, since you can use a kinetic blast and follow it up with a cantrip from your base class.

I do like gather power. Makes perfect sense and brings the old ability into the new action economy flawlessly. I'll think on Burn for a while. It might grow on me, because:

on a tactical level, I love decisions like that. Kineticists were all about balancing trade-offs, so while this isn't quite the same thing, it carries a lot of the risk-reward that makes for a fun character.

I do wonder how much, if any, consideration was put into multiclassing. If the damage dice of blasts was halved or less when granted as part of getting it as a dedication that would be fine I think, putting it pretty close to an attack with a ranged weapon.

I'm wondering if the other two character sheets for your games were finished, and if we could see them? I know it's a busy time but I loved seeing the others and would love to see more!

For those who missed the panel, one thing that was revealed was that there are 7 kinds of kineticist, with water and ice being seperated (and I'm guessing air and electricity?)

Here are the other two pregens I made:

Chief Sin'kik (he/him) - Goblin Cryokineticist

Zulga Lightburn (she/her) - Half-Orc Electrokineticist

I understand the concern about the power of a 1 action kinetic blast cantrip and multiclassing, but I've done a couple things to balance out the power of it.

For one, it's based on CON for the spell attack roll, damage, and DCs. This is likely to make it not as high of a bonus for most casters, but might be attractive for some martial classes who want some elemental punch!

For two, it has the flourish trait. Though this doesn't affect most caster-based builds, it does prevent folks from spamming it and from doing "two cool things" on their martial multiclass.

For three, it still has the attack trait, so MOST other damage dealing cantrips will have a -5 to hit or vice-versa. A notable exception is electric arc...

Any way you slice it, this will likely be a pretty good "blasty" multiclass. Other caster dedications will give 2 cantrips, this only gives one, but it's pretty potent.

Based on the play-test and some suggestions, I am going to make a couple small adjustments before releasing the final copy.

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Yay thank you for more builds! And yes electric arc is the main issue with that one last action. Not sure the best way to balance it, maybe making the version you'd pick up with the multiclass feat be 1d6 per two spell levels, I dunno.

But the class itself is so great and I can't wait to get my hands on the finished product!!

Thanks! Some further damage analysis shows the class about on par with ranged attack builds and a bit behind dedicated damage dealing classes (Rogue, I'm looking at you).

The real beauty in this class is:
A) Thematic ablities
B) Status Effects
C) AoE Damage

Though I'm going to update Focused Infusion to give not only a +X to hit but also a +Yd6 to damage. This should help it stay competitive in the damage department against bosses and other solo creatures.

Some of this also makes me feel not too shabby when it comes to "double blasting" an innate cantrip (or multiclass) and a kinetic blast.

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I hope and expect kineticist to be behind in damage (at least single target) compared to martials dedicated to damage. Totally agree on the direction you took with the beauty of the class. I was initially worried about the combination of lower to hit than a martial and only one attack per turn, but I think it's fair because of the different ways you can attack (especially targeting saves and attacking in an area).

Grand Lodge Contributor

Yeah, the most common ways to attack are AC and Reflex, but you can also attack Fortitude with some form infusions (i.e. Cloud).

There's also a good chance of doing half damage with Reflex based AoEs.

With as important as status effects are in PF2, I think those substance infusions that cause stun, prone, and other conditions will be even more important.

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I was wondering about substance infusions! I don't think any of the character sheets have any, was curious if they were going to be a thing. One more thing to look forward to. Probably can only use a blast with a substance and form infusion by spending focus points I would guess, unless substance isn't a focus spell
