Hey gang, it looks like we have a count of the replays we've been granted! I seem to have 30 to burn. (My wife has 28. And it seems like those are in the same ballpark as a number of other regular players and GMs.)

Thank you!

I've got some questions about how this will actually work in practice:

1. Is our use of these going to be tracked automatically?

1a. Many of us have a number of other sources of replay, like GM stars, that aren't tracked--but for the GM stars, they're the renewable resource. We want to burn those before we burn the nonrenewable replays. If this is tracked automatically, how do we represent the use of one of these other replays?

1b. Edge cases: if the system is automatically tracking things, how do we need to change reporting to compensate? Are there any rules we should follow? (Example: GM does not want to take credit; player is replaying a scenario for no credit, but with a non-pregen character)

2. These replays are just for Pathfinder 1 (and, I presume, Pathfinder 1 Core), right? (They're just labeled Replays at the moment)

3. We're still operating under the assumption that, if we've replayed something in ages past, we cannot use the new pool of replays to replay that scenario again, right?

I started wondering about this stuff because I've got a couple of GM star replays burning a hole in my pocket, and I'd like to make sure I use them (and not these new replays) before Gencon hits. I'll probably start finding out sooner rather than later, but some official guidance would be helpful for everyone!

Where's this?

Silver Crusade 5/5 Venture-Lieutenant, Pennsylvania—Pittsburgh aka Terminalmancer

There's a number of "Replays" listed on your GM/Event Coordinator tab in the Organized Play section of your Paizo account. You'll need to recalculate first, of course.

Sovereign Court 5/5 RPG Superstar 2014 Top 32 aka Netopalis

It appears to automatically deduct, which is a bit problematic because I've used previous replay boons.

That is problematic. I have 4 of my 5 star replays left.

I'd imagine much like the current system where the occasional "player has already played Wolves of the Woods" error for a repeatable pops up and no one cares, no ones going to notice if you go to -4 replays but folks might look into it if you go to -30.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I wonder if it also deducts if you have multiple things like Confirmation or Tome of Righteous Repose?

To really know, we'd have to know the formula behind it all to verify.

Yeah, that is a very significant problem.

But that's totally possible with gratuitous application of "Glutton for Punishment" boons and/or repeated use of GM star replays, unfortunately.

My plan is to just use some space on my current tracking of GM Star replays to tally off my replays and record them on the sheet that I use them.

Yeah, I've already added 30 to my own personal replay tracking. I am a little concerned that the number on the website, which has almost no chance of being correct, is going to carry some weight.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

We'll see if the system refuses to allow the GM to enter your character as having played a scenario if it's one you've played before, and the system doesn't think you have any rerolls left.

(Of course, for that to even happen, the reporting page will have to be one of the Paizo web pages you can navigate to that week....)

Anybody know when these replays become active? I've run out of my current allotment :-)

How about we wait a few moments for Paizo to tell us what it is and how it works before we start speculating people into a panic?!? We know new campaign rules come out at Gen Con every year. We also know they are eyeball deep in getting everything completed and published by the convention and the timing between departments like IT updating the website vs OPF producing weekly blogs on Wednesday are not always in sync.

This is a bit of chicken and egg situation. We had to roll code to show the replays and weren't exactly sure when that would happen. Now that we rolled the code, we can implement the redemption side and build out the rest of the necessary pieces. The entire program is set to go live next Thursday morning.

First thing first. Have ya seen the new Boon Tab on your My Organized Play page? If not, please check it out before reading further, as things will make more sense if you do so.

Currently, the tab shows Playtest Points Purchases and a drop down list. This is because we've only input the PtP redemption widget in the system. In the upcoming days, we will add a AcP widget and a Replay widget.

When the Replay widget appears, you will be able to "select" replay as an option to purchase for a chosen character. This will remove one from your pool and provide a voucher with your character number on it. You can provide this voucher to your GM at the start of the replayed game. This voucher should be kept with the replay chronicle to indicate it is valid.

If you are in an online game, you can send the file to the GM so they can attach it to your digital chronicle sheet.

It will show online as "not counting". That is a resolution we haven't been able to solve yet and my not be able to get to. But in PFS(1e) your paper chronicles are paramount and the online recording is backup, so I'm not as concerned that we didn't solve the problem.

The formulae was based on games played with an additional bonus for GM stars, as a thank you to those members of our community who give of their time so that others may enjoy our game.

The Replay widget doesn't include replays from any other source (GM stars, boons, replayable, etc). It is based on the total games played/GMed when we took the snapshot. Future games won't count either, as we took a picture and are done.

I hope this helps calm the panic. I've got to go back to the pre-Gen Con pile!

I am just curious what formula was used to figure out the number of replays. I have a combined 464 games (234 GMed/230 played) and had 25 replays. It looks like based on what people have said the max was 30.

From what Tonya said above, it was based off games played, not GMed. And then a bonus was added for GM stars. I haven’t been able to crack the formula yet, but I got 29 replays with 296 games played and 4 stars. It’s possible that it’s 5 replays for every 50 games played round down plus 1 for every star. That would work for you and for me. Though if that was the case, I don’t know why they wouldn’t just use 1 replay for every 10 games played plus stars.

I'm showing 7 replays and I'm currently at 75 scenarios played and 2 GM stars so your 5 per 50 + stars thought seems accurate.

So will those other methods (GM stars, boons, etc.) still be available? Will we still have an opportunity to recharge GM stars like we have been the past few seasons?

Tonya Woldridge wrote:

I guess I don't get how this helps. I've never had a PC audited (nor have I ever audited a PC) and even if they did how would I know that a chronicle was an illegal replay without checking both the play history of a player (something I don't have access to without the player having the ability to show me) or all the chronicles from all the PCs that player has?

The Season 10 guide remains in effect, so GM star replays and boons remain active.

Liberty's Edge Venture-Agent, Online

Yes, but what about after that? We don't know anything about the next guide. Will it apply only to 2nd edition or also to 1st? Will it change any of these rules?

If it does then it might be best to avoid the surprise of suddenly finding those stars are unusable.

It will apply to 2nd Edition. So 1E play will continue with the current rules for the foreseeable future.

Thinking that might be the maximum number granted.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Unless they have a reason to create an entirely new guide for PFS1 it will probably stay the way the Season 10 guide is with some addendum attached. They could create a new one but that would probably be in 2020 at best.

Shadow Lodge 5/5

541 tables of GM credit.
356 tables of player credit.

Something like 230 tables played
202 tables GMed (but of course this includes the "2 for modules" thing)
25 replays

Hmm... my spreadsheet tells me I only have 195 GM credits. I suppose I could spend a long time trying to figure out the discrepancy. Or, I could figure it's less than a 5% discrepancy, and not worry about it.

How did you guys figure out your tables of player credit? I have 418 total sessions, and 202 GM credits, but I think the "sessions" is just number of items reported, and doesn't take into account that modules are "more" than scenarios. (2 GM credits for GMing a module, but 3xp... so, which do you count toward your player tables?)

I'm suspecting that unique scenarios played are the key in the calculation not simply sessions played based on comparing my results to some of the posted results. I'm wagering that if half your sessions are Confirmation and Master of the Fallen Fortress, for example, you'd have fewer replays than someone with the same number of tables with no repeats.

Games reported vs. games played might be an issue for some players.

I have played 232 games but only have 174 games reported.
This works out to a 75% report rate. Is this reasonable in terms of reporting?

A couple more points.

1) It would be helpful if the printed replay coupon could apply to the player and not the character as many times you do not know what character you will need to play until you start playing at a table.

2) It would be great if you could gift some of your replays to other players. I have a couple of hard working GMs who I would be inclined to gift a couple of replays to.

For me that is terrible since I have 100% on reporting. Of course I am unrelenting in bugging people in making sure games are reported and reported correctly.

Yes, I was going to raise the same issue. If you are the person replaying, it is only good manners to adapt your character selection to the rest of the table. Requiring a character-specific printout before the game is very problematic.

In the system that is built, we have to assign to a character, not a player. As these will not remove the "you've already played" piece of the reporting, you may cross out the character and write in the one that did the replay.

We don't want to discourage a table best practice, but this is a piece of tech being used for one specific benefit. Our cost to benefit ratio brought in this as the best solution.

Finally, I will reiterate the point made up thread. We announced replays months ago. We advised there would be a snapshot taken in July. We left this data capture until the last possible moment and still roll it out during the first edition campaign. While I empathize with the games not reported, waiting until the 12th hour to investigate a problem really leaves us with no resolutions.

I rather like the coupon implementation. I'm glad it's fairly flexible (such as applying coupons to other characters instead on the fly).

In hindsight, this would have also been a great way to handle star replays.

That is the beauty of an evolving program. And I agree, it would have been. But our tech functionality from the time we implemented the replays to now has grown by leaps and bounds.

I'm sure this will be of use with some refinement sometime in the future!

Scarab Sages 4/5

I'm glad that the number of replays was generous. I was worried when it was announced that it would be a finite number that the finite number would be something like 5, when 5/year seemed more reasonable. For those of us who got close to the max, that rate would take 6 years to use. It's hard to imagine still playing PFS1 frequently 6 years from now.

I'm also glad that the formula was designed to favor those who have played the most sessions (as opposed to GMing), as those are the players most likely to need to use a replay in order to sit at a table, and GMing is already rewarded through the GM-star/Expanded Narrative replays.

I still think it will be difficult to fill in enough sessions on an Expanded Narrative boon each year, but it's more likely now than it was.

I kinda wish it was calculated in increments of 10 instead of 50, given that it's a one-time calculation. That the difference between 199 games played and 200 games played is 5 replays doesn't seem quite right (assuming my guess at the formula is correct). I'm not sure I see the harm in assigning 4 extra replays to the player with 199 games.

I also still think there should be a way other than Expanded Narrative and playing PFS2 to earn additional replays, but I'm ok with what we have here.

Additional paperwork is annoying, but it's a small annoyance. I'm glad that we can adjust which character it's linked to if we need to, even if that's a paper only adjustment.

Shadow Lodge 4/5

Oh gods, 29 replays. Along with with 41 unplayed scenarios and a handful of sanctioned modules I don't figure I'll ever run out of content.

This will be crazy useful during gamedays, for instance. Getting that 2 player table to fire will help our tiny local lodge to chug along while we wait for 2nd ed's offerings to reach that critical mass where newcomers won't be left without a table because the regulars have already played everything from current season.

ALSO, I finally get to pick between a fairy dragon, a raktavarna and a pipefox on a character with the actual darn familiar class feature.
