Vegetable and lentil stew tasted better with tumeric and more salt. Spices do make the world go round =)

Tumeric is also a great spice to use if you want everything it touches to turn bright orange.

The Exchange

I don't really care about the colour of the stew per se, just so long as it tastes fine =) Should have taken a picture but I can do it tomorrow when we rinse and repeat.

The Exchange

Oh here's Part of my lunch

vegetable and lentil stew makes another part

Not just the stew but every ladle plate item of clothing that comes in contact with it. I think they did legit used to use that stuff for dying cloths.

They are tooo vegi for me. Still... they probably taste good.

The Exchange

Broccoli costs 59 cents per 100g, while cauliflower costs half that.

150g of cauliflower and 100g of broccoli for that meal would cost 1 dollar and 3 cents

Eggplant would cost $0.825, cucumbers cost $0.40. Tomato cost 34 cents, lentils 15 cents.

90g of chicken breast would cost $0.65.

So cost of lunch, excluding condiments, electricity would be...$3.40.

Where I am, lunch would minimum cost $5 so its savings. Chicken also costs more then brocoli if you're talking about costs per gram, besides too much meat and you may run into cholesterol issues. I still do not understand how can my mom think that eating nuts will lead to high cholestrol. Only animal products have cholestrol, period.

But cauliflower... yuck.. I don't like broccoli either.

Nuts reduce risk factors for many chronic diseases, including heart disease and diabetes. Almonds are actually good for your cholesterol.

The Exchange

Ah I see. I guess I eat pretty much every vegetablething =P

Nuts are pretty pricy so I generally only have them when I'm on the run and don't wish to(due to time/cost constaints)/cannot find any other noms.

The Exchange

Here's the alternative vegetable nom.

Okra(also known as ladies finger) anyone?

Yeah mom's are hard to replace.

The Exchange

Bah damn autocorrect.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

It makes actually more sense that way.

I do like Okra but only if its deep fried. Too slimy otherwise.

I LOVE BROCCOLI

I guess someone has to eat it. I donate all my shares of broccoli to Woran then.

I'll duel her for it.

As long as it's fresh, I'm not a huge fan of cooked broccoli.

I liked steamed or roast broccoli. Raw, I can go it if there is some sort of dressing to go with it. My dogs go berserk for steamed broccoli, too.

You are all weird.

Okra - only in Cajun dishes for me.
Broccoli - yes please.
Cauliflower - yes please.

Give me southern, skillet-fried okra (or "okrie" as the old folks still call it) any day. The battered and deep-fried okra you get in restaurants just isn't the same.

I had okra fried and dipped in chickpea flour and black pepper recently. That was a bit of alright.

I've never had okra.

The Exchange

My to go to for okra is with some sambal belacan for a quick stir fry with large onions(yes, pretty much everything I cook has an onion in it).

Failing that its kecap manis and salt.

Steamed broccoli imo is too bland. Unless you sprinkle herbs like basil, rosemary etc over it. Also steaming stuff doesn't require much washing. Just a quick rinse does the trick.

Being a cooked vegetable snob - No raw broccoli, please.

The Exchange

I wanted to do French beans, but they were too much trouble to slice diagonally for a stir fry, besides, they cost more then broccoli and cauliflower.

The Exchange

Now one might ask, why no leafy vegetables? Because they don't microwave well.

Yeah brussel sprouts and asparagus are nice...but also cost a bomb. I'll stick with what I can get relatively cheaply, thanks. Score one for eat anything feat!

Also yesterday I tried mashed sweet potatoes. It was interesting. Would love to eat them more often but alas...the vitamin A is too strong.

I know I've had weird dreams. I generally have them after eating too much after a certain period at night. I still think though dreaming in clip shows is weird.

Also I never liked broccoli until I got older. Now I'll eat it because I think it might keep me alive. Maybe.

One of the benefits of a strictly Midwestern diet I guess.

This has become the new Paizo food thread. I think any thread I'm prominent in eventually turns that way. I feel that says something about me.

mmmm...food.

Oh gonna be out of town for a week after tonight so I'll be checking in less often.

Thomas - you shouldn't be forcing yourself to eat vegetables you don't like. Assuming you have the means, instead of broccoli you could be eating green beans, okra, brussel sprouts, asparagus, zucchinis, eggplants, cucumbers, bell peppers, collard greens, leafy vegetables like spinach, bok choi, pea shoots, snow peas etc -there are plenty of vegetables out there, go find one you like!

Look kale and chia seeds are touted as superfoods, but you don't see me eating them do you?

Kale is ewww, I still have standards, and chia seeds are overpriced. I'm on budget!

Though my mom recently bought some hulled pumpkin seeds so I may just help myself...

MMM pumpkin seeds are yummy.

We usually steam it too. But roast in the oven is real good too.

I dont get the weird thing people have been doing with kale. I wondered what this 'superfood' was, untill I googled it, and its just our old fashioned dutch boerenkool. Which we mash with potatoes and gravy and some sausage.

I'm already looking forward to winter so I can eat stamppot every day.

Especially toasted. Don't forget to toast them. World of difference. I also found out that the nestum 3 in one oat cereal is good with cinnamon and tumeric eggs are slurp. Is there anything wrong with me?

I stir fry my brocoli with onions and kecap manis and salt.

I mean probably, but I'd try it.

you eat okra.

My mom and my aunt eat okra too! Tell it to them!

And my brother eats Tempura Okra!

The Exchange

Well yeah I do agree my standards are quite low and the balut eating incident is fear factor worthy.

Which shows you just how low kale is on the roster in comparison.
