How exactly does Baalzebul's regeneration actually work?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Considering you presumably damage him by destroying his "body's" constituent flies, does his regeneration cause a bunch of new flies to just magically appear every round until he is back at full hp?

I'd say yes. I always imagine that magical weapons attack a foe's essence in some capacity, not just their physical body, hence why they can damage creatures without a true body like incorporeal stuff and Baalzebul. Without damaging his essence you can't truly put an end to him and the flies will just pop into existence.

It could also be that the flies that were killed come back to life and rejoin the body. To me that is more disturbing and more appropriate for a devil than more flies simply appearing.

Very well, thank you.
