Weird idea: national anthems for Golarion countries?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

What songs would you pick? For Geb I would say this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DtI0TaEQoc

Shadow Lodge

I do admit I like the idea of them, but I don't know enough real-world ones to twist to suit stand-in nations. Plus, what would work for ones like Rahadoum or Druma?

(Though I do have one guy whose failed Perform checks take the form of, "He tries to belt out the Andoren national anthem, but is too drunk to remember most of the words")

Just off the top of my head:

Rahadoum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvz-fYbFN_o

Druma: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t-gK-9EIq4

Pretty sure Razmiran would have the Kazakhstan Anthem from Borat with all of the mentions of Kazakhstan replaced with Razmiran.

Cheliax just gets the Imperial March from Star Wars.

Ravounel gets The Song of Silver, which at our table sounds suspiciously like “Je Ne Regrette Rien.”

I actually like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKKExq0_SQg for Cheliax as they are based on fascist Italy and mainly worship Asmodeus.

Check this out. *Ahem*

🎵Razmiran! Greatest country in the world!🎵
🎵All other countries are run by little girls!🎵

🎵Razmiran! Razmiran!🎵

🎵Exporter of divinity!🎵
🎵All other countries have inferior divinity!
🎵

Apart from this pair of notable exceptions, none of the linked songs actually sound like national anthems that nations on Earth have . . . Although I have to admit it would be pretty funny if something like this happened . . . .

Because western European nations started adopting anthems for themselves around the time of the Romantic period, and that period's style and musical technology more or less defined the genre.

Also thinking of them as discrete nation-states isn't always such a hot idea- each Linnorm King is effectively independent, for example, and the Realm of the Mammoth Lords feels more like a region than a discrete legal entity...

They're not alone. In Avistan, we have:

States:
Taldor;
Galt;
Andoran;
Highhelm (Five Kings Mountains);
Larrad (Five Kings Mountains);
Kovlar (Five Kings Mountains);
Taggoret (Five Kings Mountains);
Rolgrimmdur (Five Kings Mountains);
Tar-Kazmukh (Five Kings Mountains);
Druma;
Kyonin;
Razmiran;
Sevenarches (River Kingdoms);
Cordelon (River Kingdoms);
Hymbria (River Kingdoms);
Tymon (River Kingdoms);
Lambreth (River Kingdoms);
Daggermark (River Kingdoms);
Protectorate of the Black Marquis (River Kingdoms);
Loric Fells (River Kingdoms);
Gralton (River Kingdoms);
Touvette (River Kingdoms);
Pitax (River Kingdoms);
Mivon (River Kingdoms);
Narland (River Kingdoms);
Brevoy;
Mendev;
Numeria;
Sinaria (Ustalav);
Barstoi (Ustalav);
Varno (Ustalav);
Versex (Ustalav);
Ardeal (Ustalav);
Odranto (Ustalav);
Ulcazar (Ustalav);
Amaans (Ustalav);
Caliphas (Ustalav);
Virlych (Ustalav);
Canterwall (Ustalav);
Lozerei (Ustalav);
Vieland (Ustalav);
Molthune;
Oprak;
Isger;
Cheliax;
Ravounel;
Nidal;
Korvosa (Varisia);
Magnimar (Varisia);
Kaer Maga (Varisia);
Urglin (Varisia);
Riddleport (Varisia);
New Edasseril (New Thassilon, Varisia);
New Eurythnia (New Thassilon, Varisia)
Irrisen;
Ironbound Isles (Lands of the Linnorm Kings);
Broken Bay (Lands of the Linnorm Kings);
Icemark (Lands of the Linnorm Kings);
Thanelands (Lands of the Linnorm Kings);
Hagreach (Lands of the Linnorm Kings);
Grungir Forest (Lands of the Linnorm Kings); and
Southmoor (Lands of the Linnorm Kings).

State Confederations:
The Five Kings' Mountains;
Ustalav;
Nirmathas;
The Lands of the Linnorm Kings; and
New Thassilon (Varisia).

Non-State/Tribal Confederations:
Belkzen; and
The Realm of the Mammoth Lords.

Geographic Expressions:
The River Kingdoms;
The Sarkoris Scar; and
Varisia.

That said, the preconditions for nationalism are very much a thing in Golarion, as is, accordingly, nationalism itself, and some of those confederations and geographic expressions are ripe for unification.

Just replace the word "Harvard" with "Taldor" in Tom Lehrer's Fight Fiercely Harvard.

Now, if we're talking "theme song," rather than anthem... here's one for the Mammoth Lords.

Linkified for your convenience.

Now THAT sounds like real music . . . Actually probably too good for Geb's national anthem, but I'd rather err in that direction than in the other direction.

Taldor- In keeping with giving Cheliax the Imperial March, Taldor gets the first minute and a half or so of the Throne Room bit from Star Wars- cultural similarities, and the triumphant tone is very much in keeping with Taldor's self-image. Same composer, different aspirations, as it were.

Mendev- With apologies to the people of Wales, Men of Harlech has the right vibe.

Molthune- Hymn to Red October. Between their flag and, again, their aspirations, this seems to work as something they'd actually play.

Nidal- An instrumental arrangement of Paint it Black. Like that, but ideally on harpsichord.

I agree with the Imperial March for Cheliax, but I wonder if the Throne Room might actually fit better with Andoran? Taldor is a has-been empire.

War for the Crown:
Even if the PCs and Empress Eutropia succeed, it's going to take a long time to recover from millennia of corruption and decay.

This definitely could work.

Now that is awesome.

Yes -- an anthem that you have to roll your sleeves up for!

They would never, ever admit as much by their anthem. They need something grandiose and over the top.

Also, they're totes resurgent now, we promise.

Is there any city like Venice in Golarion? If so this should be it's theme

Absalom's not too far off, actually.

I don't know which city in Golarion most closely corresponds to Venice, but if one does, THIS should be its national anthem.

as far as Geb was concerned it was either that or
total badarsery
and this one truly is too good for them

Isger- The Imperial Suite from Rogue One- as abject vassals of Cheliax, they should get a tune that tries to channel the same vibe while being derivative and less iconic.

Also plays into the shared cultural background of Cheliax, Taldor, and so forth.

For Andoran- I think as a self-consciously revolutionary bunch, they'd try to distinguish themselves from Cheliax, and so I WON'T loot and pillage Star Wars scores for theirs. So I'll loot and Pillage Crono Trigger instead, with some online arrangement twiddling. Frog's Theme.

Galt- It changes every so often, as the previous composer is executed for failure to uphold revolutionary ideals.

^Strange how I just noticed that the Imperial Suite from Rogue One sounds like the Imperial March hybridized with WarCraft II music (especially Orc). And speaking of which, WarCraft II has an awful lot of good stuff to loot and pillage . . . .

This weird idea gives me an even weirder one: theme songs for the new meta-regions?

Absalom- I don't know many city songs, Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z maybe?

Broken Lands- Demons by Imagine Dragons

Eye of Dread- Thriller by Michael Jackson

Golden Road- A song with gold in the title? A song about deserts?

High Seas- He's A Pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean

Impossible Lands- Not sure...

Mwangi Expanse- Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n' Rose's

Old Cheliax- Highway to Hell by AC/DC

Saga Lands- Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin

Shining Kingdoms- This little light of mine?

Radiant Oath
