Core Set - Not Enough Blessings?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Anybody find there's not enough Blessings in the Core Set? We are using Lem, Merisiel, Seoni and Valeros so there are 12 Blessings in our decks. Very first Scenario, I think with four Blessings in the Location decks. With a thirty card hourglass, this left only two Blessings total in the box. We found the Villain in the first location who escaped, necessitating four Blessings from the box to "cover" his escape. With that location closed we only have three Blessings available. I've counted the cards, I've checked the decklist and I've got everything I should. Now I also have to think what would happen if we say had Sajan instead of Valeros. There wouldn't have even been enough Blessings to make the hourglass.

This has come up a few times. :)

At the start of the Dragon's Demand campaign, you use the level 0-1 banes and the level 0-3 boons (i.e., all the boons). There are 74 blessings total, so it should work out OK. (This and other easily missed rules can be found here.)

You use all the boons for precisely the reason you describe - you can run out of cards otherwise. We just finished scenario 2C, and even using all the Core boons we almost ran out of allies. But it did work out.

(Don’t have my cards on me so I can’t count, sorry)

Did you build the vault using all of the Core blessings (including the level 2 and level 3 ones)? Dragon’s Demand has you build the vault using all boons including ones above the scenario’s level for the exact reason that you may not otherwise have enough cards.

If you did build with L2 and L3 cards and ran out, then yeah, that seems like a problem. If you have Curse of the Crimson Throne or any Class Deck, try shuffling those boons in as well. If you have neither Curse nor any class decks, try using some of the unused henchman proxies (like if the scenario calls for “A” proxies, use the “B” proxies) as stand-ins for additional blessings, and if you run into them encounter a random blessing from the hourglass discards instead (excluding the Hour).

Ah, I see that now. It's only the banes that are limited to level 0 and 1. Thanks guys.

Do note that although those cards should be in the vault and are found in locations, you can’t actually keep any boons above your level between scenarios. So, if you manage to nab a level 2 boon you can use it for the rest of the scenario, but you won’t be able to give it a permanent spot in your deck until you start playing level 2 scenarios.
