Gunslinger Targeting

Rules Questions

Hi. I have a player with a gunslinger. He's level 7, and he just got the "targeting" skill. Now they are going to fight with Xanesha, and i am afraid that with that ability it will be a very easy fight, since he can take away the weapon, confuse her, etc.
Do they has changed in the latest version of Ultimate Combat? Do they Have corrected anything? I seen that this skill is overpowered.
Thank you.

The targeting deed? No, it's unchanged.

(Ultimate Combat pg. 11): At 7th level, as a full-round action, the gunslinger can make a single firearm attack and choose part of the body to target. She gains the following effects depending on the part of the body targeted. If a creature does not have one of the listed body locations, that part cannot be targeted. This deed costs 1 grit point to perform no matter which part of the creature she targets. Creatures that are immune to sneak attacks are immune to these effects.

Arms: On a hit, the target takes no damage from the hit but drops one carried item of the gunslinger's choice, even if the item is wielded with two hands. Items held in a locked gauntlet are not dropped on a hit.
Head: On a hit, the target is damaged normally, and is also confused for 1 round. This is a mind-affecting effect.
Legs: On a hit, the target is damaged normally and knocked prone. Creatures that have four or more legs or that are immune to trip attacks are immune to this effect.
Torso: Targeting the torso threatens a critical on a 19–20.
Wings: On a hit, the target is damaged normally, and must make a DC 20 Fly check or fall 20 ft.

The obvious problem with it is that it's a full round action and so line of sight may be an issue. If the gunslinger can't get LOS with a 5' step they can't even attempt this deed. Alternately it'd still provoke AoOs if she's up in his face.

Also note that like any other disarm she could pick the weapon up with a move action or draw her backup weapon as part of another move action.

If you are really, really worried about a gunslinger ruining your BBG have them cast a fog spell when they notice the gun.

Also if Xanesha happens to be a Lamia Matriarch (am I right?) they are immune to mind-affecting so they would ignore confusion. And if I remember correctly...the lamia is more dangerous unarmed than if she was using her weapon.

Avr, why line of sight may be an issue?, If the target is in melee or with soft coverage, the gunslinger cannot use this ability?

Meirril, thanks for your tips :)

Without some other special ability, you cannot make an attack at all against something that has total concealment. Fog, darkness, blinding, invisiblity--these all have the potential to shut down overspecialized archer and gunslinger characters completely. There are ways around all of them, but most characters are susceptible to at least one. You can still attack the square you think they are in, but, well, good luck.

I'd be more worried about a lucky crit one-shotting the boss. Gunslingers do that.
