Has the World Guide been delayed?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

The Lost Omens World Guide product page appears to show a delay in the product:

Product Page wrote:

Hardcover:

Preorder, expected approximately 12 Aug 2019

PDF:
Will be available for purchase approximately 28 Aug 2019

I'm hoping that's just an error?

(The Core Rulebook and Bestiary still show hardcover & PDF for August 1st)

It could be an error if it happened in only one place, but the shifting of this product to late August on the the Release Schedule page makes it seem more deliberate.

Of course, I wouldn't consider this delay fully confirmed until they eliminate the possibility of picking this product up at Gen Con.

Is the release schedule page auto-generated from the product pages or something? In that case it could just be duplicating the same glitch

There have been a number of issues with these product pages, including incorrect PDF pricing and incorrect release dates. So I'm not jumping to conclude that the World Guide has actually been delayed—just asking for official confirmation one way or the other so folks can stop worrying!

We should truly know for sure whenever this placeholder page is updated with next month's subscription info.

There could have been a printer problem, and the number are limited, forcing a staggered release (Gen Con pick up, then preorders, then normal sales?)Best explication I can find with the weird dates we have.

That seems far less likely than an actual one month delay, especially given that the immediately preceding Druma book that was originally supposed to be released this month got pushed to next month.

I would hold off on over reacting yet. I am also seeing the 2nd World Guide, the Critical hit and Fumble decks in the list of product releasing in August on the main page so there is something weird going on.

I only say this because the preorders expected dates got changed to 14th August... Which I find weird. And they activated Gen Con pickup yesterday, it would be weird if they activated it for the product they knew they would delay the day after...

THAT is indeed quite strange!

They are not in the release schedule though.

There is a page for the 2nd World Guide book? That is news to me....

Off to look it up....

https://paizo.com/ main page at the bottom August Releases, cycle through. THere are no pages for them yet.

If you go to this page and click on the right arrow under "Upcoming August 2019 Releases", you will see a totally useless link to the "Pathfinder Lost Omens Character Guide".

I am not finding any links to critical hit or fumble decks for PF2 -- just for PF1 and Starfinder.

Click left twice to see links that don't work to Pathfinder 2E Critical Hit and Fumble decks.

Found them... Interesting, I didn't think we would see new ones for PF2, with the way they work now.

Thanks -- found them. Those links are just as bad as the link I did find.

And I am pretty sure that these are all post-August products.

That is my point something weird is going on there. So until that is sorted out I am going to wait to see how the release schedule shakes out.

Okay, it looks like another product is showing as being pushed from a Gen Con release to late August.

Official quote coming from the Know Direction discord:

“I can confirmed that The Lost Omens World Guide will not be available until late August (around the 28th). It will not be available for Gen Con pickup. We are still in the process of updating our website details to reflect this change. Questions can be directed to our Customer Service Department which is open Mon–Fri, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific. They can be contacted at (425) 250-0800 and customer.service@paizo.com.

Perram from Know Direction got confirmation:

That's really too bad.

So, that means I need to remove this item from my preorder in order to get it all earlier?

Dansome wrote:

You should probably contact customer service if you want confirmation on that. They're great, though. I'm sure they'll get it sorted for you.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook Subscriber

I just got off the phone with customer service and they are currently in talks regarding how they are going to address existing preorders with the world guide in it. Splitting off into a separate order would likely incur additional shipping so that is a talking point I confirmed they are working through.

Oof, well ...ouch.

I wonder if there is an issue with the printer, jeez I hope they're covered for the extra cost to ship the books separately. Yeesh, first the tariffs and now this too?

Nope, not an issue with the printer. It was always ambitious to release as much as we tried to release on August 1, and this book's delay is related to that.

I assume print delays are going to prevent the PDF copy from being released? It would have been really nice for my players to get to build towards archetypes day one.

Correct. When a print product by Paizo is delayed, so is the PDF. It is now in every possible way a Late August release.

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

On the front page, it looks like the August releases are cycling through various post-August products for which the product pages aren't ready yet.

But it looks like the status of the Lost Omens World Guide is settled. The open questions now are in regard to other non-PF2 products.

I would imagine 1000 pages of full color hard backed books in the main book and bestiary are a huge workload for the printers as is. Not to shocked something got pushed a bit.

And remember, those 1,000 pages are just two of the books. That total comes close to doubling when you factor in all the other products we're doing at the same time—including Starfinder and the card game.

It was always an insanely aggressive schedule, as Mark pointed out.

It was definitely rough, especially with books like World Guide and the adventures that had rules inside that had to correctly follow the rules from Core/Bestiary while those were in flux, all for the same day. But when you guys get these books and start dreaming up new stories and adventures, it'll all be worth it! :)

Well, the upside is it makes one less launch day product. My wallet was feeling it a lot already.

Somewhat related note, anyone know if there's a cut off point for pre-orders to be shipped in the first launch batch?

You want to check the July/Gen Con subscription thread in the Customer Service forum to see when they plan to run the auths -- you would want to have your subscriptions and pre-orders finalized by then. Unfortunately, they haven't filled in that thread yet with anything but "TBD".

This sucks... I was really looking forward to having Golarion-specific backgrounds for Age of Ashes and other adventures/APs.

I hope at least the AoA players' guide has some backgrounds for the PCs, similarly to how other APs have customized traits.

I mean, it's possible to start playing with CRB backgrounds, but they're very generic afaik. We could try them out and then switch to LOWG backgrounds on the 28th, I guess...

Yes, last I understood, each Adventure Path with have its own backgrounds you should be using. One slightly disappointing aspect of the Backgrounds system, that it is taking the place of the Trait system, which was much smaller and still left you with a non-campaign trait slot.

With Backgrounds as I understand it... you can have a background that integrates you into the adventure path. Or you can not have that tie in and pull something from another book you read, but potentially not be prepared for something planned for the game.

Still looking forward to seeing what is available. [the players being able to peruse and see the backgrounds available for that path might give some clues what skills and skill feats might be useful in an adventure path, for instance, and might narrow other selections down that might be similar]

While I'm disappointed they won't come out together, but still look forward to seeing what they have in them when they get here. Given how busy things are at the moment, I may not get to play it right away, so that probably won't be a giant impact in the end.

Have you considered delaying starting Age of Ages by a few weeks? That'll give you time to better digest the rules by the time the World Guide is out. If you absolutely must play 2e ASAP there's always The Fall of Plaguestone.

I believe the question was meant to be have you considered delaying starting PLAY of AoA. Not delaying release, haha.

That makes a lot more sense, and is pretty good advice...

But for folks who can't or don't want to wait, you can use what you already know about Golarion to play, and GMs should be open to letting the players adjust character builds if they want once the World Guide is out.

Also keep in mind, as long as your group doesn't zoom through 1st level, you won't fully need those archetypes until the PCs hit level 2.

I feel like there's some value in "playing the game some with the smallest possible ruleset." We will have years to play with the bells and whistles, so sticking to the meat and potatoes (this is a weirdly mixed metaphor- do not eat whistles) for one game won't hurt anybody.

Of course, there's also value in waiting to play an AP until the GM has had the chance to read all six volumes, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Indeed it was. There's no way I'd suggest delaying the release of this AP as I want to read it as soon as possible for my own group.

We can totally wait for the archetypes, what we would've liked to have from day 1 are the LOWG backgrounds. But since the AoA players' guide has specific backgrounds tailored for the AP, not as much a problem as I thought!

Anyone get an answer yet regarding how they are going to address the preorders that have the world guide in it? are they going to split it out and ship the other items?
