Relics of Taldor - Automatic Bonus Progression

War for the Crown

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Okay so I'm playing this AP with ABP in place which means +1 armour and weapons aren't included etc.

Part of the joys of the relics is them leveling up over time and often it's bumping up to +2 from +1 plus an extra ability such as rolling twice to confirm a crit.

Should I just remove the +1/2/3 etc from the relics and leave it with the other abilities?

I would leave the relics as is. I would not play this AP with ABP. If you are the GM will need to retcon/modify those relics heavily.

I'm also doing this AP with ABP and analysed this subject.

You can get by just with removing the bonuses and leaving the other abilities. This handles almost everything without too much trouble, assuming the players choose to align their bonuses to these items (and even if they don't, they're powerful in their own right). The only part you would need to remember is the instances where items use their enhancement bonus in another calculation (namely, the Ovetrian's Plate's demoralization effect).

The only tricky one here is the Subtle Mask. This removal makes its 3rd triumph effectively meaningless. What I might suggest in this instance is to just replace the Charisma bonus with "+X to Charisma-based skill checks".

Alternatively, if your players are willing to keep track of it, you could have them just opt to use the normal bonus progression in place of ABP for the affected stats when using these items specifically. For instance, if you're using Koriana's Blade, you forgo your ABP attack bonus to use the blade's bonus instead.

This actually reminded me that I need to discuss this with my players pretty soon myself...
