Hello everyone!

Cards Against Gnomanity 2019 Player Signups are open!! This is our second annual PACS-focused online play-by-post convention. If you're not familiar with the concept of PACS using play-by-post, make sure to check out the instructions document below.

INSTRUCTIONS

SIGNUP SHEET

Note that we have a separate sheet to sign up for tables of the Pathfinder Playtest RPG version of "We Be Heroes?"

If tables of the ACG older seasons don't fill, we'll likely convert these to new Core/Curse adventures instead.

Looking forward to playing with all of you!!

VC, Online PACS

Thanks!

Yep. We'll likely lift that restriction after a week or so, we just want to make sure everyone has a chance to sign up before we allow people to sign up for a bunch of tables. :-D

I'm really interested.
But I'm really confused.
Is there a primer for PbP PACG?
I don't even know what it means to dot a thread.
Am I too new to do this?
I own, RotR, signed by Mike Selinker, and the Expansion Add-on.
I also own Core and Crimson, and I'm playing those solo.
Help me out, please.

Hopefully this helps...

Just going to pull this out of Cartmanbeck's Instructions linked above as it's pretty good primer: Start Here

That being said you can check out any on going game to get a pretty good idea how PbP PACS work. Here's a link to a game I'm BR for: Season of Factions' Favor We've been running since the last CaG, so getting close to a year.

Dotting in typically means going to the Gameplay tab of the table you are joining, posting a quick message and then deleting the message. This lets the BR know that you have made it to the table and allows you to find it in your campaign tab (My Account > My Profile > Campaign).

You absolutely aren't too new to do this, we have people joining all the time. Just jump in and ask questions if things get confusing. We all started off new and had to figure it out as we went along. It's usually a good idea to let the BR know that you are new, probably in the discussion page, so they can make sure you get set up correctly and are ready to go when we start.

There is also a thread for testing out a trail turn if you want to give it all a go to make sure you understand how to format your text. Test thread here

I think all of the BR's are happy to answer questions as we all enjoy this game and want it to succeed and that means helping you to have fun and not be confused.

Good luck!

Thanks so much.
My first question is, do I have to own a class deck, or can I use a starting deck from the Core set?

It is played under organized play rules, so you have to have a class deck

We all have to start somewhere. :)

More information about PbP PACG (and organized play in general) can be found at the link below. Look in the "resources" section. It's aimed specifically at brand new players.

OP operates from the idea that you have a bunch of people who don't own the game. Instead the game store or venture officer supplies a group of core boxes that they loan out for you and your 11 other friends to play your adventures from. However, you might not play with the same people every time and those boxes are returned at the end of the night, so you might not be playing from the same box. Given those assumptions it doesn't make sense to build your characters from those boxes as it would deplete and mix up cards from the various boxes as things get shuffled around week after week.

Instead it requires players to purchase a smaller subset of cards ideal for the character/class they want to play, in the form of the class deck.

Hope that explains the reasoning...on to the options:

Requirement: Class deck

If you have a particular character in mind, you can match the class to the class deck for all of the Core characters. Curse is a little trickier since the brawler, investigator, and skald don't have class decks yet, but the OP guide spells out who to use for now.

Optional:

If you are wanting to add additional cards to the pool you can build from you can optionally purchase an Ultimate deck to supplement the card pool available with the class deck you purchase.

Optional 2:

We are testing a new rule that if you own core you can for now substitute cards of the same name from the class deck and core. As an example there are some class decks that use the ally Bat, instead of using that card you could swap and use the ally Bat from core. This is beneficial since Core assumes more player interaction and the cards in that set help to support other players more.

I'll have to decide if I want to buy a class deck then before this event.
Thank you for the answers though.

Just signed up. Excited to try out the card game with play by post. When it says to prove you have the class deck, how does one do that? I keep my class decks in those BCW cardboard boxes and did not keep the packaging the deck came in. Do I just take a photo of the stack of cards that is the class deck I will be playing with or .... ?

Thanks!

If you can take a picture of at least one of the character token cards, along with your forum name and PFS#, that would be perfect! You can send that to me at morkxii@orgplayonline.org.

Thanks, and I hope you have a great time!

I take it these games are not season 6 as far as the Playtest boon is concerned? Correct?

Correct, season 6 releases at GenCon, so we will not have any season 6 games during this event.
