Questions about the Druid Spell: "Spellstaff"

Skills, Feats, Equipment & Spells

Description of the spell:
"You store one spell that you can normally cast in a wooden quarterstaff. Only one such spell can be stored in a staff at a given time, and you cannot have more than one spellstaff at any given time. You can cast a spell stored within a staff just as though it were among those you had prepared, but it does not count against your normal allotment for a given day. You use up any applicable material components required to cast the spell when you store it in the spellstaff."

1. Do you have to cast the spell you want to store in the staff along with casting Spellstaff?

2. If you don't have to cast the spell you'd like stored, does it have to be a prepared spell that gets stored? Or can it be any spell on your list(s) that are available on any given day?

My line of thinking was that you could have Spellstaff prepped in the morning, and then as long as you can afford the 10 minute casting time, you can essentially put any of your spells into the staff to be used after the 10 minutes. This would allow for a lot of versatility. For example, the party comes to a giant cliff we need to climb, I can take 10 minutes to cast Spellstaff and put Communal Spider Climb in the staff and then cast it on the party. This versatility is obviously negated if you need that situational spell immediately or in less than 10 minutes. But, if you have to put a prepared spell in the staff, I guess you just keep an emergency or situational spell in there in case you need it at some point.

Thoughts? And thank you in advance for any help/replies!

Try asking in the Rules Questions forum---this one is actually for the playtest and few people read it now that that's over. (I flagged your post to be moved Fri, but they seem to be taking a while to get to it.)

Thank you! This is the first time ever posting on here so I appreciate the advice. I'll post it to the Rules Questions Forum. Hopefully I get some thoughts on it.

Thank again!
