Hey, so I'm starting a CotCT campaign on Sunday(Cam, Eric, Shawn, Will, and the Lactose Intolerant One stay away from this thread if you see it). Was hoping for general advice for Module 1, but I did have one main question:
Is there an agreed upon start date to the campaign? Any events that matter what season it's in? I'm kind of a stickler for tracking time in campaigns, so I like to have these things figured out. Any consensus? Reading through the first and second modules I can't find any sort of orientation point to align the rest of the adventure to.
Depending on whether you're running the 3.5 or PF books, the starting year changes (4708 AR in 3.5, 4716 AR in PF.) I prefer using the 4708 year even for PF, as it condenses the timeline, but that is just a matter of personal preference.
As for dating, A History of Ashes is stated to occur during 'late spring' in the hardcover edition but advises that summer can work just as well. From that, I would estimate that Curse of the Crimson Throne begins during the winter or at the very start of spring.

I started my D&D campaign on Gozran 8th, 4708 AR.
They are just about to finish Seven Days to the Grave, and are on "Day 62" of the campaign. That means that by the time they get to A History of Ashes, it will probably be mid summer already. Oh well. Didn't plan one way or the other for that (I hadn't yet read through AHoA when we started the campaign), I just always tend to start my campaigns in Spring.
