Save DCs for spells originating from magic items

Is it always the minimum spell DC (similar to a potion or wand), using effect/range/duration as per the item's CL, or do you get to add the wearer's Int/Wis/Cha modifier?

I've never heard of adding your mental stat to the DC of spells cast via magic item, but a player in one of my games claims this is an accepted fact on the boards. He also adds trait bonuses to enchantment/charm/language dependent spells cast from magic items, resulting in spell save DCs of 17 instead of the regular DC 11 for a 1st level spell...

It is always the minimum unless you have a class feature which says otherwise.

Most items like scrolls and wands use minimum stats. Certain items allow you to use your own. (Staves, I think.)

Edit:

Staves use the wielder's ability score and relevant feats to set the DC for saves against their spells. Unlike with other sorts of magic items, the wielder can use his caster level when activating the power of a staff if it's higher than the caster level of the staff.

Magic items produce spells or spell-like effects. For a saving throw against a spell or spell-like effect from a magic item, the DC is 10 + the level of the spell or effect + the ability modifier of the minimum ability score needed to cast that level of spell.

Staves are an exception to the rule. Treat the saving throw as if the wielder cast the spell, including caster level and all modifiers to save DCs.

Without special wierdness (scrollmaster wizard, wand mastery/rod mastery/scroll mastery magus arcana, etc) Kevin Willis has the correct citation.

That's what I thought.

To be specific:

Cloak of the Hedge Wizard - daze spell at will. Caster level 1st.

Player using DC 17, which includes his mental stats and a +1 trait bonus.

I say poppycock to that. Agreed?

Unless they have a class feature to add it, you are correct.

Poppycock. It is DC10.

If a player is doing something you do not agree with the onus is on them to prove what they say is true not for you to disprove it. What someone said on the boards once does not count as proof unless that person is the PDT account or a member of the PFS leadership team.
