All I saw were a bunch of Star Destroyers...

.....wow was that a boring trailer. I guess maybe they're returning to clone planet from episode 2 where we met Jango Fett. For the most part it looks like it could have been re-cut from scenes from all 8 of the previous movies, with editing in some of the new characters from the current trilogy, so I guess JJ is looking to make this an homage to Return of the Jedi the same way that Ep 7 was an homage to A New Hope.

Seems like Palpatine once again uses the plan of "let all of the rebels band together into one big fleet so I can easily destroy them all at once" since that worked out so well for him last time.

Possibly the best part was seeing Y-wings and B-wings in action.

So how many days until the Mandalorian comes out?

I didn't think their was that many Rebels left after the previous movie.

I mean, they outright talk about the people joining up with them.

Vid,
Liea sent out a request for help to other Resistance forces, but they did not send aid.

Thomas,
I saw that some of the action is on Endor. Yay, Ewoks.

So, a Jar Jar jar?

That made my head hurt.

What if the Emperor cloned Jar Jar? Setting loose 1,000 Jar Jars into Rebel Alliance worlds would be devastating.* No doubt devastating at the box office as well.

* Assuming the universe allows such a cloning blasphemy to occur in the first place.

You look upon Y wings kicking ass and see nothing special? You must be spoiled.

Which one is the Y-wing?

The one that is shaped like a Y...

It's a response that takes the trailer at absolute face value... in that it is assuming that all of the audio matches perfectly with the visuals as they will appear/sound in the actual movie.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but sometimes when cutting a trailer, they put audio from one part of the movie and overlay it on visuals from another part.

Also, the two of you seem to be forgetting that both of the previous movies had trailers that included both video AND audio that was not actually in the movie itself.

I'm well aware of that. However, in the case of Episode 8 I wish more the video and audio in the movie wasn't in the movie itself! ;)

Episode 8 has it's own thread if you'd like to discuss it.

Feel free to illuminate me.

Monte Python reference about recovering from being turned into a newt will always be amusing. It was a funny joke basically.

Cool

It worked for the Mandalorians.

So any news on the geeknet if this is going to be good?

Kinda hard to say with any authority until people actually see it. Once the advanced press screenings happen I’m sure we’ll start to hear.

Until then all we will get are people’s guesses, many of which will be coming with plenty of personal agendas in tow unfortunately ...

My personal guess is that it will be a fantastic movie and a great closing out of the Skywalker saga.

It will more than likely be the following three things:

1) *Very* entertaining
2) *GLORIOUSLY* divisive
3) And a pleasing high followed by a disappointing aftertaste

1 - Because Disney has making entertaining films down pat.
2 - VII and VIII both have their fair shake of internet vitriol.
3 - I think it will be less of a disappointment than the "OT's Greatest Hits" VII on the back end, simply because all of the (admittedly wild as hell) leaks are all over the place as far as bringing something new to the franchise.

That said, it will be a let down simply because it is a culmination and a fixed "period." Unlike MCU which will drone on and on for eternity until it gets a comic style reboot, the Saga has been 40 years in the making. And now it will be complete. Even the littlest missed landing will be amplified (ala the "okay" GoT Season 8 getting worse and worse in the cultural memory with time, and that was only a decade of story).

Liberty's Edge

Bounce too close to a supermarket.

Great behind the scenes stuff.

Scarab Sages

I wish I could recall where I saw it, but it was an article about how some folks are worried that the new Star Wars' performance at the Box Office could be negatively affected by the release (weekend before) of Jumanji and (same weekend) Cats.

As much as I find that amusing, and as much as my boy and I are looking forward to seeing Jumanji, I find it difficult to believe such "worries" are anything more than some entertainment media trying to stir up s$~*.

Cats is classic counter-programming. The people who would go to see one opening weekend are not the people who would go see the other.

People who go see Jumanji second weekend would be the people who would wait at least until the second weekend for Star Wars, too.

Final fight! :)
