Multiclass or go straight?

Strange Aeons

Sovereign Court

I am thinking of playing a Fated Guide Spiritualist for this AP but I am not sure if I want to multi class into Spiritualist or just go straight Spiritualist. So far my character is someone who stayed in his village, a healer or maybe a local mage if we don't have enough casters, while his fighter wife went out on jobs outside the village. I was planning on making his wife his Fated guide.

Would it be better to start off as a spiritualist or should I multiclass?

Any class whose major feature scales off of class levels probably should be single classed, with a 1-level dip being generally permissible. No need to make your phantom worse.

One thing about Strange Aeons is that your character is going to start out with amnesia, so don't worry too much about your backstory.

What if I use variant multiclassing? Do you get you other class' proficiency if you use vmc?

You only got what it says you get, and none of the VMC's explicitly give you proficiency. The only way to get weapon proficiency with VMC is by choosing the Oracle of Battle option, and then selecting it as a revelation.
