Caustic Blood Armor

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi y'all,

I just read a thread about the spell Caustic Blood and I thought it would fit my Gnoll anti-SorcaDin Disciple perfectly (Green Dragon). However, his favo spell at the moment is Blood Armor. How would the 2 blood spells (Caustic Blood and Blood Armor) fair when they are both cast on the same person? Does the one negate the other? Do they overlap? Does it provide an enhancement bonus to the enemies armor? Do you have to roll (50%) to see what effect is used? Does it damage the enemy and the afterdrizzle provides you with an enhancement bonus? I'd say the later, but I'm not sure, could you help a fella out?

Cheers

Use both. I would also house rule that it does a small amount of physical damage to the attacker as the corrosive iron blood jets out at the enemy but that's just me.

The two do slightly work against each other. The fact that you're damaging people when they damage you will mean they score fewer hits on you, which in turn means you'll get a little less mileage out of blood armour. Meanwhile the increased AC means on average you get hit less often, which in turn means caustic blood won't do as much damage.

That said, this does seem like a really minor factor.

I don't see any reason for them to not stack. There is nothing in the caustic blood description that states that getting blood on yourself has any adverse effects. The flavor of the spells suggests that you could have some interesting house rule effects (like the acid being harder to scrape off and it actually increasing the AC of enemies hit by it), but mechanically the two don't really interact with each other in a meaningful way.

Combining the two I imagine your blood becoming something like molten metal (but acid instead of fire). Where the initial spray is painful and liquidity but then it rapidly coagulates into a very hard substance. Just because the substance has hardened some, it doesn't make it any less painful having it on your skin.

Each spell does what it does.

Caustic Blood will cause a spray of acid blood.

Blood Armor will cause blood that gives you an armor enhancement bonus.

They don't interact at all.

if you want to go full-masochist, you could add in the spell Blood Rage (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/b/blood-rage/) to get an attack bonus when you take damage too.

I do love the visual of you getting cut, and then the blood spraying out on them like acid, then hardening on your skin. such dope flavor.

It's akin to the blood of a Xenomorph.

Absolutely use Blood Rage (spell) with Caustic Blood and Blood Armor...

Blood Armor cancels the penalty from Blood Rage, you still get the full benefit of Caustic Blood and Blood Rage.

It's "only" 356,000gp for a ring that does all three constantly.

YES!!

Thanks for the addition of Blood Rage, it does make the combo complete. Now up to save some gp to get that ring.
