Synthesist Summoner Characteristics and feat requirements

Advice

So over on my advice thread

https://paizo.com/threads/rzs42ie7?Monk-Eidolon

An interesting point was raised, that I instinctively thought was wrong but, yet cannot find any evidence to clarify the situation either way

Anyway, the short story

For meeting a feats characteristic prerequisite of 15 strength does my summoner need to be 15 strength or does my merged stats with my Eidolon count for meeting it?

Can my summoner have 7 strength, and my Eidolon 15, and still be able to take Dragon Ferocity

Edit: Wrong sub forum sorry. I am on my phone, genuine mistake

No one really knows. RAW, you can, as the only thing the written rules say about feat requirement is "Your character must have the indicated ability score, class feature, feat, skill, base attack bonus, or other quality designated in order to select or use that feat. (...) Your character must have the indicated ability score, class feature, feat, skill, base attack bonus, or other quality designated in order to select or use that feat." CRB pg. 112

this FAQ also says that "Temporary ability bonuses should apply to anything relating to that ability score, just as permanent ability score bonuses do."

In addition, this post concerning the ACG playtest made by the lead designer sets a precedent of using temporary abilities to qualify for feats.

On the other hand, this post by the same person says "you need to permanently have a score, feat, or ability to meet the prerequisites of a feat or prestige class." It's only a forum post and older than the above two things, though.

Unless I've missed something, you'll have to ask your GM.

That's an ask-your-DM kind of issue, because there isn't a good, official answer.

Technically, you'd have to keep the modified ability score for more than 24 hours for it to count as permanent, and thus allow you to use it to choose feats. But those kinds of rules weren't written with something like the synthesist in mind.

Do you have a rule quote for that beyond the forum post I've already provided? Because the prerequisite rules in the feat section doesn't talk at all about permanent or temporary bonuses, and the temporary and permanent bonuses section doesn't talk at all about prerequisites.

[quoteYour character must have the indicated ability score...in order to select or use that feat.

Quote:
Some spells and abilities increase your ability scores. Ability score increases with a duration of 1 day or less give only temporary bonuses. For every two points of increase to a single ability, apply a +1 bonus to the skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability.
Quote:
Permanent Bonuses: Ability bonuses with a duration greater than 1 day actually increase the relevant ability score after 24 hours. Modify all skills and statistics related to that ability. This might cause you to gain skill points, hit points, and other bonuses. These bonuses should be noted separately in case they are removed.

With the implication being that temporary ability bonuses don't "actually" increase the relevant ability score.

Of course, that FAQ has muddied the waters quite a bit. So, now there's no telling what the intention is. And if we got an official answer, I'm sure it'd work against the synthesist, because the developers have a hate-on for that archetype and the summoner in general.
