PFS Concept Build Advice

Advice

Looking for some help building a Musketeer type character as well as a high AC Shifter. The Musketeer I am thinking would be Gunslinger/Swashbuckler in some form?

The Shifter would have high DEX and high WIS for the conversion to AC, and is there a way to get DEX to damage on natural attacks?

Any tips on how we can get this done?

The swashbuckler has a Musketeer archetype which represents a 3 Musketeers style character really well.

Musketeer as in the literary characters or as in the military rank?

You basically need to decide what to be good at. Gunslinger with Fencing Grace works, but gets few sources of scaling damage. Picaroon or Musketeer Swashbucklers don't either. Trench Fighter actually works, you could combine it with Martial Master to pick up the missing feats to be better at one of the two combat modes switching from rapiers to firearms.

But the issue still stands that you can't be great at everything simultaneously...

I'd look into using Slayer – they get so many feats and a weapon-agnostic damage bonus, they could work well for a Musketeer too.

As for the Shifter, you don't need DEX-to-damage. You already have many other methods to increase input. For example, you could look into getting Outslug Style to get more AC and damage while you are at it.

Basically, he is looking for a Gunslinger on a mount...he is calling it a Musketeer type just as an easy to label description. Basically a musket and rapier user like what would have been used in The Three Musketeers times. I suggested Gunslinger/Cavalier, or perhaps some Hunter levels and he wasn't sure it sounded right. He read through the Cavalier option and doesn't particularly like how that class functions.

The Musketeer archetype for both Swashbuckler and Cavalier are not PFS legal so those are not valid options.

As far as my Shifter: I was so excited for this class and then terribly disappointed when it arrived. I still want to build a High AC / Natural Attack build that would be an effective front line performer...but I also want to build in skills/knowledges so he is efficient outside of combat as well. Perhaps I put some points in Charisma and go for a more social out of combat build.

Spellscar Drifter Cavalier is one of those few firearm-legal classes in PFS. Otherwise, he's SOL.

If he doesn't want to be mounted Savage Technologist Barbarian is pretty great too. He does need to get several feats though.

Cunning Liar and Emphatic Negotiator are options to be better social stuff with Wisdom.

I can think of a couple good frontliners with natural attacks, good AC and Knowledge skills...

Beastmorph/Vivisectionist Alchemist comes to mind, for example. Slap heavy armor on it and you are golden.
