Melee area attack

Advice

Is there something (class, feat, trait) that allows me to attack more squares like a breath weapon?

Whirlwind attack?
Whirlwind attack with lunge?

There is various cleave feats with reach. Not quite like a breath weapon though.

Yes. Any character using a firearm that uses pellets (15ft cone). So, exotic weapon Proficiency (firearms).

Silver Crusade

Whirlwind Attack for the win. Combines especially well with Brawler, a reach weapon, and Enlarge Person. Costs four feats plus a Martial Flexibility use, or five feats. Result: you get one attack against every foe in any of the ~115 squares you can reach with a single 5' step. Core rules.

Usually you can only cleave from one target to an adjacent target. However a dwarf can take the Goblin Cleaver/Orc Hewer/Giant Killer feat tree and cleave any targets in reach.

Combine with enlarge person, lunge, and a reach weapon and you can hit just about anything in a fireball-size area.

I've had a Whirling Dervish swashbuckler in a few of my games lately. The 7th level deed is pretty handy, especially when he's hasted.

At 11th level he can attack four different targets, moving to each one, all at his highest attack bonus. And it doesn't take any feats, it's just a class ability. (Or any panache since he made it his Signature Deed.)

Alchemists can make bombs act like a breath weapon with the breath weapon discovery.

Cleaving sweep (a feat) is another means of attacking a lot of squares albeit with a trip attempt.

Awesome blow can let you knock one enemy into another.

Turbulent takeoff and rushing wings let you throw enemies around if you can fly.

With mythic rules ride-by attack allows several attacks, as do other abilities like sweeping strike, groundshaker, sunder storm etc.

There's assorted 3rd party stuff you might like also.

Note that just about everything is a single attack, save or whatever per opponent - nothing allows a full attack into each of multiple squares that I know of.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hmm....

01 barbarian1 [sav-tech/drunken brute], Extra Rage, Dodge
02 brawler1 [Martial Flexibility]
03 fighter1 [Combat Expertise], Power Attack
04 fighter2 [Mobility]
05 brawler2 [Spring Attack]

This'll let you get swoll as a move action drinking potions, and Spring/Power Attack while raging as early as 4th (if you have another move to activate Martial Flexibility). Buy an opalescent white pyramid and a fauchard to make crits rain.

Silver Crusade

Two ways to get Whirlwind Attack at 5th level:

The recent Fighter[Spearfighter] archetype gets Dodge as an extra bonus feat. This makes Whirlwind Attack even more accessible.

Any 2/3+ BAB class can get access to Whirlwind Attack at 5th level. With Brawler-1/Spearfighter-1/Anyclass-3 you get two spare feats. With Brawler-1/Anyclass-4 you just barely get Whirlwind Attack at 5th level.

01 Anyclass-1 [anyfeat1, probably Combat Reflexes] [anyfeat2?]
02 Brawler-1 [Martial Flexibility] [Improved Unarmed Attack]
03 Fighter[Spearfighter]-1 [Combat Expertise] [Dodge] [Mobility]
04 Anyclass-2
05 Anyclass-3 [Spring Attack] ==> Whirlwind Attack via MF

Another option (must be human):

01 Brawler-1 [Combat Expertise] [dodge] [Martial Flexibility] [Improved Unarmed Attack]
02 Anyclass-1
03 Anyclass-2 [mobility]
04 Anyclass-3
05 Anyclass-4 [spring attack] ==> Whirlwind Attack via MF
