Replacing racial FCBs

Homebrew and House Rules

I am considering removing racial FCBs and instead picking out 2 or 3 of the middle value ones for each class and making them options for that class across the board. While this would remove some unique character to the races it would also nullify particular races being 'the best' or 'trap' options for a class based on those bonuses.

Wondering what folks think of this idea?

Some are traps, others are niche.

And even then sometimes you have to weigh the option of getting extra HP or a Skill rank against them. Human Brawler; +1 CMD to 2 manuvers of your choice? Bleh. I'll take the other options.

I don't know about a full on change for all your games but float the idea to your group(s) and players. If you can come up with FCBs that are damage, move, defense and maybe something else and then let the player choose which one to pick up, that might not be too bad.

You do realize they can still take the HP or Skill Point, so there are no real "traps" when it comes to a racial FCB?

Rogue Genius Games already has Unchained Favored Class Bonuses, which allows you to choose from a multitude of FCBs from each class, as well as companion FCBs (if you got one from a class) and racial FCBs (enhancing your racial traits instead). I recommend you check it out.
