How to fix a broken soul?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Would just something like remove curse work or would you need more powerful stuff like wish/miracle? Also would the creature in question turn back to whatever it's original alignment was after it gets fixed? I'd think so.

What do you mean by "a broken soul"?

Broken Souls are perfect the way they are, it's the celestials who need fixing.

Oh, that. That seems like it would require a lot more than a remove curse. But I don't really get the concept behind it anyway, as I don't see what differentiates a broken soul from a "normal" character who has been tortured into a psychotic state.

I assume it's more than "just" torture if it also gives them some supernatural abilities

Duct tape.

Maybe this is what the Whip It Good! thread is about.

Sovereign glue. Fixes all.

Name aside, I don't know that the actual soul is affected. Seems more like a figure of speech than anything else. Not quite clear.
The template doesn't even change the type. Which kind of contradicts the flavor text, but still.
A broken soul human is still a human, apparently, if one transfigured by the majesty of pain and anguish.

By fix I mean remove the template from the creature, as even though it makes them more powerful I'm pretty sure no one (other than maybe a Kuthonite) would actually want to be one.

Well, if you want to do something that there is no rules to do, then Wish or Miracle and be prepared to pay extra.

Yep. This is GM territory, no standard rules.

I will point out though, the whole idea behind the template is that the creature as somehow been brought to the point that they revel in the pain. And want to share. It's absolutely Kuthite/Velstrac adjacent.
They will not go through a reversal or a "cure" willingly.

I have a vague memory of an adventure path where there is some broken soul low level monster (I think some sort of agathion) and it even says you can fix him with wish or miracle. Anyone know what this is?

I think Wrath of the Righteous featured some broken soul Lillend Azatas, probably in the fourth volume. Given all the redemption options in that AP it’s probably them.

I always thought of the point of the broken soul template as "here is a way of making a canonically Good creature Evil enough to fight without guilt", so a mechanical way of redeeming them would kind of undercut that.

Dark Archive

It is Council of Thieves where wish and miracle is given as option for removing Broken Soul template. From that I would assume its never anything less than wish or miracle power level stuff :p

I can't speak for everyone, but I would still feel bad if I had to kill one (Ok, it's kind of a mercy kill but I would still be sad it had to come to this).
