Need Giant or Giant-Kin Heavy Scenarios (Convention)

GM Discussion

Grand Lodge 4/5

Last year I mentioned that our convention board announced that the theme was "It's a Trap!" and needed trap heavy scenarios. This year, will be the 40th anniversary of the convention, or XL, so the theme will be "extra large". At their request, the tournaments and PFS scenarios have been asked to involve giants or giant-kin in each of the adventures. Barring that, scenarios that involved incredibly large creatures, but the preference is very much giants. The VC has already dubbed "King of the Storval Stairs" will be one of the games, and 3D terrain has been built for it. However, that's just one scenario for an entire weekend.

Short of using sanctioned Adventure Path scenarios, which unfortunately don't do very well at our convention (unless they can play all of them in a single weekend), does anyone have any suggestions for Giant themed scenarios? Each slot is six hours and we'll only be doing Pathfinder 1.0, not the playtest stuff.

Thanks in advance.

I would have suggested The Frozen Oath which involves giants but is the level 10 PF2 scenario.

Some of the seeker stuff involves big monsters, although not giants. Betrayal in the Bones and Unleashing the Untouchable would both fit.

Curse of the Riven Sky has a lot of giants but is a module.

Reaver's Roar has a very big monster as its primary focus.

Ironbound Schism involves lots of actual giants.

Elven Entanglement has I think the largest creature that you fight that has ever appeared in a PFS scenario.

Below the Silver Tarn has lots of large enemies (but no actual giants)

Thanks. That'll be a good start.

I've ran "We Be Gobins Too" a few times so I know that'll be a decent fit too.

King of the Storval Stairs is an epic scenario focusing on giants.

Yeah, my VC said it had to be one of the games. As I said in the OP, someone actually built 3D terrain for it. I can't wait to run it.

8-24 Raid on Cloudborne Keep:
This contains giants in an optional encounter.

2-02: Rescue at Azlant Ridge:
This one involves a PC controlling a huge (gargantuan? Don’t remember) construct. Not exactly a giant, but sort of. Has a very giant robot vs giant gorilla feel to it. The construct makes an appearance in the later season follow up, but not under the PCs control.

There is a scenario with a large map where there are giants throwing rocks at you. I cant remember anymore which one its in. (wanst king of the storval stairs)

Solstice Scar A had giants throwing rocks I think.

That was Ironbound Schism which includes a lot of different giants

King of the Storval Stairs and Ironbound Schism are the most true-giant-ish scenarios, but andreww's list is very good.

Yeah, it was Ironbound Schism. Couldnt remember much, except for that one map. Looking it up, that was indeed the scenario

Unfortunately, or fortunately (haven't seen it yet), we'll be doing Version D. Maybe that'll keep the giants. Or not. I wish I knew.

Nope, they were part of the orc segment which was, I think, the first segment that was cut.

A couple variations on your XL theme...

You might also consider doing the XL aspect from the other side - and pick a scenario where the PCs are fighting Tiny monsters, so the PCs are the XL part. In that vain there are a number of scenarios where the PCs fight Fey... This would give a real Gulliver's Travels feel to the adventure.

#8-03 Captives of Toil or #6-21 Tapestrys Toil:
No Giants - but Duagar who use Enlarge Person to super-size themselves before attacking.

#3-05 Tide of Twilight:
The players fight Atomie at one point, where the PCs are "big, lumbers oafs!". And they might face a Spriggan - a small creature that grows to Large just before the fight... a Monster that Super-Sizes itself for combat.

They are golems rather than giants. They are however large and there are far too many of them to reasonably fit inside a fairly small elevator together (at last at high tier).

You could do this but that might lead to running Six seconds to midnight and no-one should be forced to endure that.

Ah, my mistake. Yeah, it’s not the best setup for the fight.

I thought there were some bog giants or swamp giants in a scenario somewhere. Can’t remember which one... got it. It’s marsh giants, and they’re in

Spoiler:
Of Kirin and Kraken. Which, given the end boss might also work. He’s not a giant, but he is a huge creature with “giant” in the name.

Right, but isn't D bringing something back? I haven't actually looked at A, B, and C to know what's going on.

Grand Lodge 4/5

I'd like to reiterate that not just fire giants or giants in general are necessary. Giant Kin are perfectly acceptable. So cyclops, ogres, trolls, etc. Anything "giant type" is fine.

Didn't the first part (season 0) have

Spoiler:
druids with enlarge person?

I think so - if it didn't then I'm sure there are other scenarios that do...

Likely. I just remember that one of those two had it. Just couldn't recall which part.

There is a dangerous cyclops in On the Border of War.

What's the one where

Spoiler:
you have a cyclops ghost and fight a cyclops skeleton?
One of the Champion's Chalice scenarios?

EDIT: Looked it up. It's Part II of CC.

Scenario 4-24 Price of Friendship has landsharks, an ettin, and (in high tier) several giant auroch with trample. I had to buy a set of toy oxen from Target for miniatures for the auroch.
