He's on a school trip.

Looks like they going for same look/ feel of Homecoming. Looks great.

It does look like that...but I'm still not sure they went the right way for Mysterio. But I could be wrong... I mean they could be setting him up to APPEAR as a hero, much like his origin story...

Well I do remember reading someplace that

Spoiler:
Mysterio and Spidey team up to stop some threat before Mysterio goes bad.

Yeah, I don't think Ol' Bubblehead suddenly has superpowers or is a hero. My guess is he has access to (or has built) some special effects technologies ("hard light"/photonic molecules and hologram projectors) to stage villain emergencies so that he can rush in to save the day. Some sort of long con to get him greater fortune and fame to feed a likely massive ego. Maybe even set Mysterio up thematically like the Vulture & Wizard Tinkerer from S:HC as a warning of the evil side of technology-wielders as a counterpoint to Pete & Tony Stark's use, and get Pete thinking along those lines to plant seeds toward his own Parker Industries some day.

Edit: I like that they are already showing Flash Thompson as having genuine respect and admiration for Spider-Man.

Ambrosia,

So you think maybe we'll get Agent Venom down the road? ;)

But yeah that's my guess too. He's just staging it just like he did in the comics (albeit more mundanely) to appear "heroic" in the eyes of others.

This is one movie where it would have been nice not to know the Comics :) We all know Mysterio is just a fraud - but for non Comic Readers this will probably make a nice surprise!
At least I hope they go this route instead of making him some Kind of fallen hero. Here's one for Villains with massive Egos that are just doing it for the Publicity!
That is what I always liked about Mysterio - he was really relatable. A SFX guy that gets no recognition at all decides to use his skills to become famous in a world where being a superhero/villain is a feasible Career choice.

The MCU incarnation of Spider-Man is the best ever, hands down. I thought SM: Homecoming was great.

That said, Flash Thompson is a pathetic shadow of the character in the comics. However, he's light years ahead of the new 'MJ'. At least Flash shares the antagonist traits of his early comic-counterpart. Michelle has nothing in common with Mary Jane. I don't know why the just didn't treat Michelle as a purely original character (which I would have been completely ok with them doing instead).

I found both to be annoying in Homecoming, and really the only negatives about the movie.

I did love the orchestral Spider-Man theme going on in the trailer, keeping the iconic song but in a more epic and theatrical delivery.

We liked both in Homecoming.

Joke I saw elsewhere said the perfect ending would be the cast flying home at the end, getting on a bus to go to school and then Infinity War started.

Sovereign Court

As far as I know this movie happens minutes after Endgame.

Liberty's Edge

That’s certainly what I’ve heard.
Although I don’t think they’ve actually said ‘minutes’. I think Marvel has said something a bit less specific, like “directly after Endgame” or “just after Endgame” which could mean a few days, or even weeks after ...

But it’s definitely supposed to happen soon after Endgame, not before, according to what Marvel has said

Sovereign Court

So a reset is likely, although I'd still like there to be consequences.

Yeah this is my take as well, although the Elementals could be real entities he has somehow figured out how to manipulate.

A reset/mindwipe is no doubt going to happen so there are not mass amounts of people suffering from mental trauma from IW/EG

Phillip Gastone wrote:

Yeah, there was never any way that was going to stand. They'd have to make every future movie about exploring the consequences of half the population dying. (Well over half, once you factor in all the incidental deaths from things like pilots and drivers suddenly dropping dead.)

Even ignoring the named characters who died, that they'll still want to do something with.

I do suspect we'll actually see real deaths in EG - either some who don't come back or others killed more directly.

Even though I really don't want to see them die, having some of the old guard leave wouldn't be a bad move. Real world reasons due to actors not wanting to be their characters for the rest of their lives/physical workouts being too demanding also factor in.

Plus I wonder how much Peter will remember. Especially with the potential of Stark dying.

All I know is Old bubble head is totally showboating for the Avengers.

My guess is time travel, which was already alluded to in Antman and Wasp. Don't need to do a mindwipe if you start something from every happening!

A GREAT trailer!

Technically though, since the name of this thread is "SPIDERMAN FAR FROM HOME FIRST TRAILER" we should probably talk about this new trailer in a new thread ...

Or maybe just ask a mod to rename this thread.

[peeve] Or, you know, stop naming new threads after the freaking trailer and instead name it after the show/movie. [/peeve]

Or just keep talking about it here. We're all smart enough to figure it out.

About the new trailer:
I'm glad they are letting Stark's death take the onscreen place of yet-another-rehashing of Uncle Ben's murder. It's not exactly revolutionary, but it fits perfectly with this version of Parker's characterization (see also the Stark/Parker hug mid-combat after Peter reappears post-unSnappening by Professor Hulk).

I also like that in this trailer MJ comes right out and confronts Peter about being Spider-Man. Since she isn't Mary Jane Watson, it'd be nifty if she got powers somehow too.

I love how this Quintin Beck/Mysterio is claiming to be from another Earth through a hole/gateway caused by the Snaps/unSnaps. It builds on the viewer's metaknowledge/nerdy speculating, and it calls back to both the recent Into the Spider-Verse movie and a Mysterio/Spider-Men comic storyline. It's an utter horsesh!t ruse -- this Mysterio has to be a fame- & wealth-seeking conman villain -- but the way the trailers are playing it, most viewers will not see the twist coming. And it helps show-not-tell build Mysterio into a smarter, believably-motivated villain. I hope we see in the background of Beck's lair/headquarters GyllenhaalBeck photoshopped into some real movie posters/magazine covers replacing Tobey Maguire and/or Andrew Garfield as the lead actor.

I have removed 'trailer' from the thread title. It is now just Spiderman Far From Home. I can add a spoiler tag to the title if you'd all like to talk about spoilers.

I mean he could still be the real villain AND from another universe

MMCJawa,

Fun fact, in the first Spider-man cross over, it was Mysterio who was hounding Ultimate Spider-man Miles Morales when Peter Parker (616) shows up there. So...inklings of Spider-verse maybe?

Also I don't trust Mysterio to NOT be the bad guy.

Yeah...which is why I think the Multiverse angle COULD be true...comic book precedence.

Well I'm not against it, in the sense "Hey look! We got a Multiverse!" "That's nice. Hey there's Ghost Rider over there. Ask him about that book he had."

Just saw the Far from Home trailer. Thought? Apparently Spiderman makes it out alive from the whole Avengers: Endgame happening.

What did you think Spider-Man: Far From Home was going to be about if he didn't?

Maybe Quark thought it would be some kind of Spider-verse thing, DQ.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

Well yeah! There's a new Captain America. Not a reboot, not a new actor playing the same character, but a new dude behind the shield. Batman (different verse, I know) did similar. Other examples abound.

Captain America though isn't Spider-man...I mean they're both decent fellows, but one is clearly a living legend while the other is still a teenager...

Hey! Teenagers are not so bad. At least some of them. Besides the original Captain America is old and busted; time for some new hotness.

:D

Quark,

I'm still waiting for Thor and Valkyrie to sword and Mjolnir up...

Saw it. It was really good. Not mind blowingly amazing but definitely really good. The big fight scene had spidey at his comic book fighting best, combining peters intellect with spideys absurd agility.

You absolutely want to stick around for both the mid credits and end credits stingers. After a brief absence in Endgame they're back.

^ Thanks for not spoiling any details.

I saw it last night as well. Fantastic. I'm not entirely sure that it's better than Spiderverse, but for me it's pretty close.

Scarab Sages

Haven't seen it yet, but I've...heard things.

Spoiler:
Sounds like they're going to push something with the Skrulls. If that's the case...

I sincerely hope they're opening the door for Chameleon to be the next villain. That could be awesome. You could start out like the comics, with him using practical disguise effects. Then, a little into the movie you could up his game by having him steal a formula based on research from the dead Skrull in Captain Marvel.

A-zombie.

Spoiler:
One of the guys at my local radio station saw it and he think they're setting up the actual Kree-Skrull war. But who knows?

Where the next film goes on what they do with the mid-credits sequence.

Spoiler:
My sense is that it was a nightmare, and Parker wakes up in the next movie absolutely fine. I otherwise can't see how they overcome the issue of the whole world knowing that Spider-Man is Peter Parker.

The other option is that it's true and Parker spends Spider-Man 3 trying to deal with it, but in the end can't, so flees to another timeline where his identity is safe, thus allowing him to exit the MCU if Sony decide to pull the deal.

Saw...I loved it...

:
...I don't think Mysterios is really dead...sure there was no holograms active...but there are practical effects...

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA

Now picturing a world where everyones ID has whether you were timeskipped or not on it so the 13 year old can't vote...

hahahahaa.. that plot point actually came up (with drinking. Twice)

Liberty's Edge

Saw it, loved it. But I do have a concern.

Spoiler:
They show that when people came back with the blip, they appeared right where they they were dusted from the snap. So the ones that came back who were in a airplane that wouldn't be there when they re appeared would have fallen and died anyway.

I did like how they had someone from Iron Man in this.

** spoiler omitted **

Negatory.

Spoiler:
The writers of ENDGAME have said that Banner is not a moron and would have accounted for this. People who were on airplanes, boats, in cars etc would reappear in their homes - even if they'd been resold - and he ensured that people did not materialise where other people were already standing etc.

More interesting is that the basketball game shows the people disappearing in some pain, like Parker, but rematerisalising instantly, in some cases still playing their instruments. That suggests that Banner also erased people's memories of their "deaths," instead having them reappear with no cognitive awareness or memory of dying, which probably saved several billion in psychiatrists' fees right there.

Liberty's Edge

I forgot about that, Werthead.
