So if the thread title is inappropriate, how about just changing it?

Closing it due to that is no help at all.

It is, you've learned that your choice of words is lacking.

And what is the chance that a thread with an inappropriate title does not also have an inappropriate first post? Technically, the chance would be zero, as the thread title is effectively the first line of your post if you are starting a thread.

Strongly disagree.

I found the choice of moderation was lenient given the thread title in question clearly violated "trying to get around our profanity filter or purposefully obscuring profanity/vulgar phrases is not acceptable." While changing the thread title is evidently your preference, it wasn't your preference in advance, knowing of the policy.

I don't like moderation through altered, removed, redacted, hidden, deleted, changed, or obscured posts, with few exceptions. This forum doesn't allow image uploads, so I'm left with no exceptions. I would rather your thread title remains - unpromoted by further replies - in posterity than be maimed.

Don't get me wrong... I have zero problem with the title itself. I totally get the pop-culture reference and chuckled. But it's against the rules. And the goal with moderation is to gently educate community members as to what is expected of them.

I think Sara Marie did you, and us a solid. I further expect this thread will shortly get a "questions about moderation on paizo.com's forums should be sent via e-mail..." boilerplate, and closure, which will be solid #2 for the day.

Just saw this thread, but for stuff that doesn't involve personal information, I'm generally fine with having feedback or questions about moderation on the forums.

The rule for paizo.com moderators is to never edit other people's text. If it needs to be changed, the procedure is to remove the post and if the person requests their text back, to let them know they are welcome to repost with edits. The exceptions are that we will redact personal information and fix formatting if its not too extensive. Occasionally, if needed, we will add text to a post; the general rule for moderators here is not to add to a post unless it is your own and document clearly that an edit was made.

Thread titles exist in an odd space as removing it means the whole thread is then hidden. Sometimes, there will be exceptions when it makes sense to edit the thread title instead of just hiding the thread and starting over. A thread title will get changed, or an offensive title might be left unedited. Usually when it meets a few of the following standards:
1. The thread has already been going for a bit with enough people or posts that would make it particularly onerous for those involved to restart the discussion.
2. Most of the title is okay, but the part that is not is an extraneous word or phrase that doesn't impact the meaning of the thread.
3. The thread is older and would interfere negatively with people's ability to search for or find it.
4. I'm at a computer where I can easily edit a thread title.
5. Other than the title, there's no significant issues with the text of the first post.

and most importantly:

6. I am able to think of an appropriate edit for the title. I prefer not to wholesale replace the title or the thread becomes hard to find for those involved in the discussion. I also prefer to try to not deviate significantly from the author's intent with the title.

To be clear, what I mean is "I'm generally fine with having feedback or questions about moderation posted as a thread in website feedback." Getting into debates or following up about moderation in a thread that has been moderated, just serves to derail things further and prevent the conversation from moving on/forward.
