Well tomorrow starts my 'self imposed exile' as I'll be stuck in the back part of my state/the border between two of the counties that I'm close to/in. Plus side is one of my clients won't need me tomorrow BUT will pay for me anyway. I like that.
Less fun and more worrisome (for me at least) is the fact I'm a little nervous about leaving my mom (who still hasn't fully recovered from breaking her collar bone and thus will be getting surgery April 1st), with both dogs...since Galway is 50 lb...and we just weighed Rory who is coming into his weight too. IE he's almost 40 lb...

Welp, my visit to the orthopedist was kind of a waste of two hours. They took X-rays of my knee which I knew would be useless because I can tell it's a soft tissue issue (hee...rhyming is cool) because it feels similar to what happened to my right knee. So they want to do an MRI on Monday with a followup on Thursday. I should have spoken up before I got the X-ray and asked for the MRI. So it's a hurry up and wait scenario.
My ortho suspects it's a torn tendon or ligament. Either way, it would require outpatient surgery. The drawback to THAT is my cardiologist flatly stated last year after my heart attack that I was to have no non-emergency surgery because of the blood thinners I'm on. He has to give the ortho permission for me to have the knee surgery. I don't see this process going very quickly.

My father-in-law has to be on strong blood thinners. Surgery for him is always incredibly dicey and should only be done as a last resort - the instant they start reversing the blood thinners he starts throwing clots (sometimes literally, straight up into the air, while on the operating table).
I really hope that's not the situation you're in and that they can safely get the blood thinners reversed long enough for a knee surgery.

I don't think that will be the case as I didn't have blood clots before the heart attack and the statin drug and low dose aspirin are just safeguards. I hate the idea of having another knee surgery (at least it's not a replacement...yet) but I hope he gives the OK to my orthopedist. This pain is affecting nearly every aspect of my life and I'm tired of it. Fortunately, it's not as bad when I go to bed because then I can stretch out and there's no weight pressing down on it like when I sit or walk so I spend a bunch of time just lying in bed like a big lying in bed thing.

A friend of mine in California just opened a microbrewery with some of his work colleagues as a sideline/hobby. He sent us a couple of 30 ozc cans of one of their beers. It's a stout alright. Black as coal and nearly chewy. I loved it. And the name? Some of you old hands at gaming might recognize the name from an old Dragon magazine. It's called "Illrigger". And it deserves it. Good stuff.

Very Cool.
One of my old co-workers is a home-brewer. (Havent seen him since Katrina.) He likes to make his beer strong, and hoppy. (Some people who like standard American Canned beer think it has gone bad. Nope. Thats just the way he likes it.)
He usually called his beer "Full Moon Stout", because he would always start brewing it (or putting it into the bottles?) on the Fool Moon, and knew that the NEXT full moon it would be ready to drink. :)
One of the ladies I worked with this last Christmas (She was the evil, rich miser in our 'It's a Wonderful Life' play.) is a beekeeper. She raises her own bees, and collects her own honey. AND she makes her own Mead.
She gifted me with a bottle during the show. Very good, very sweet. Very strong. And also chewy at the end where everything had collected. (Not usually my kind of drink, but it was so good!)
Cant wait to work with her again!

So it's another day here at Sweet Home Calabama. Did a little housework (there is a ton more to do, but with the pain in my leg it's baby steps), walked the dogs (that was an exercise in agony) and spent the last hour trying to get Skype to work with the USB mic/camera composite unit that I have. I use a 32" television as my monitor and it doesn't have a built-in camera like some do (which is creepy, btw). But it's all working now and I'll be able to converse with one of my players who lives 2.5 hours away and usually has to Skype in to play. We're going to run a 1st level one shot next weekend since only half my players will be here so I'm helping her roll up a monk (I hope I can get her talked into the Unchained version).
Anyway, that's been my day. What have the rest of you guys been up to today?

I have a friend who used to make a lemon honey mead that was out of this world. He also homebrewed a (according to him) Polish liquor called Krupnic or something like that. That was the most wonderful alcoholic concoction I'd ever tasted.
Krupnik. That is a nalewka with honey and spices (a varied combination of ginger, vanilla, cloves, nutmeg, orange zest, etc.).
It happens to share its name with Krupnik, which is a traditional soup made from broth with barley groats, vegetables, and meat.

Math has just been a problem for me for many years. I just don't have the type of mind for it. I barely made it through Algebra II and Geometry in high school and never took any math in college. I never graduated either, but while I was there I avoided it like the plague.
I study statistics, so when I tell that to people they think that must mean I really like calculus.
I don't... It's a necessary evil

SO apparently some parts of my state will get a kind of snow-pocalypse come Sunday afternoon/evening and into Monday. Which MIGHT be mean I don't have to go all over town on Monday to check on all the dogs I'm supposed to. Which is good since I'm not fond of driving around the back woods in a blizzard.

Doing okay. Arrived at the library an hour early. And, rather than wait outside, I walked around the adjacent Museum of Natural History.

Ill-wraith. Might or might not be a commentary on my current feeling.

Warm isn't a problem since I have back up generators in the event of a power failure. As for the dogs, they have food and water (as do I)
I HAD hope to check on my dogs and stay at my home for a bit today...but after 5 pm it was a no go.
So pasta and red sauce with some apple flavored sausage was the course for dinner tonight. Right now I am deciding on an early bed time or not...
I am wondering if I'll be able to get out by 11 (or 10 if they don't close school in my county.) But we'll worry about that tomorrow.

Well I managed to not die driving on a few roads (though the road out of this place wasn't as bad as I initially feared) Now it will be off back home to walk my dogs, have dinner, get them ready for dog school and back here for my LAST night before I can go home and back to my bed. Which I'm DEEPLY looking forward to.
