So one of my players is taking the GM chair for the first time, which means I get to play and it's taking every ounce of will not to start the session by cackling:
AHAHAHAHAHA! NOW IT'S MY TURN TO SHOW UP HALF-ASSEDLY PREPARED AND TURN THE NAMES OF EVERY NPC, NO MATTER HOW INNOCENT, INTO A FILTHY DOUBLE ENTENDRE AND TO PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED PLOT BUT GOD HELP YOU IF YOU MENTION A CHEST OF DRAWERS IN THE CORNER BECAUSE I WILL DERAIL THE ENTIRE EVENING PLANNING A WAY TO OPEN THAT WITHOUT TOUCHING IT EVEN THOUGH YOU EXPLICITLY TELL ME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IT ISN'T TRAPPED OR PLOT CRITICAL AND...
*seven hours later; feeble hoarse croak*
...and I'll totally forget the rules I use every session at least half the time and demand you look them up and god help you if you have an NPC who doesn't show me respect normally reserved for god-kings even though I'm first level because I'm ganking that b%*&~ and...
*devolves into cathartic sobbing*

I'm nearly 50 and every time a player deploys a Rod of Extend I snerk like I'm 13.
We have you beat there.
Since the game rules are in English, we use a lot of English words when playing instead of trying translate everything.
'Pikk' is Norwegian slang for penis, and sounds very similar to 'pick'.
This resulted in sniggers around the table whenever my dwarf fighter's weapon of choice, the heavy pick, came up.

"I picked the lock..."

The less said about the horseman's pick the better, I think.
EDIT: Not to mention the Rod Of Lordly Will...

So, as you may have gathered, last night was the session zero of me not being GM for the first time in a while. We decided on doing Return of the Runelords, which means I'm going to be playing an Elder Mythos archetype cleric of Umr at'Tawil!
According to my regulars, my eyes lit up. They did not confirm it was an unholy fire, but I'm guessing...

That's awesome! I am vicariously ecstatic!
I got to play one session recently in a solo game run by my friend and longtime player, Tamela. Her health is fading fast so we may not play another but damn, it felt good to be a player just once after so many years of being the driver of the damned clown car.

Welp, had my first session as a player in ages last night. Managed to unlock a brand new achievement after decades of TTRPGs.
Rolled a net negative number! Wooo!
Turns out if your Wisdom is 6 and you roll a 1...
On the other hand, I gotta say, it's a relief not to have to go around perceiving stuff all the time. Oblivious, that's the life for me!

Reminds me of reading Beowulf in the original Old English in the twelfth grade. I can still hear the voice of our teacher intoning the first three words: Hweat in Gardena…
No I don’t remember the translation. :-)

What (i.e.: Listen)! We Spear-Danes.
We had a recitation on LP and we taped it so I could listen to it in the car on the long drive to the cabin. Couldn't understand a word but I loved listening to it.

My friend Jeremy sang in the choir in both high school and college, with a lot of the pieces in Latin. Very few students knew what the words meant, but they did learn the correct way to pronounce them. So, when people would show up at his door trying to sell something or invite him to join their church, he'd roll his eyes back in his head and in his deepest metal voice begin just shouting the words instead of singing them. I guess word got around and he stopped getting unwanted solicitations.

From last night's game, after a couple stirges, giant cockroaches, and a spider swarm:
HALF-ORC INVESTIGATOR: Damn, this ramshackle old house is full of insects.
ME: Clearly you haven't been doing your job... Half-Orkin Man.
TABLE: We must seize you and throw you into the streets now!
ME: But... I live here.
MY WIFE (from the other room): Go ahead and do it!

Aside from the GM cancelling today's session late yesterday because of an inability to schedule things (hrgh! flip!) it's going good! We're three sessions in and the plot is starting to thicken. I grappled an attic whisperer! For reasons!
One of the other players said that when the attic whisperer showed up (CR 4 and we are level 1) my eyes lit up and he thought "oh shit, we're pwned." It's an adjustment to go from trying to destroy the players' frail psyches to rooting for us to win.
I've been having a lot of fun with the character. Her name is Siofra. There's a campaign trait called Time Lost, whose description is:
You’ve always felt separated from the era into which you were born. Perhaps you feel that you were born too late, and that you and your interests are better suited to a previous age. Maybe you have the conviction you were born too soon, and that your true destiny lies in some distant future. You might be suffering from missing time—whether a few hours, a few weeks, or even several months—for which you have no memories. You might instead receive brief visions of friends or enemies much older or younger than their actual age. You’ve long since grown used to this strange condition, but have not yet determined why you suffer from it.
I've really been playing that up. Add in the Wisdom of 6 and the Elder Mythos template giving me a Charisma-based cleric, and Siofra is one charming loon.
EDIT: If you're interested, I've posted my in-character campaign journals to the forums. SPOILER ALERT for Return of the Runelords.

We had two character deaths yesterday. One was planned (the player in question wanted to play someone new), and the other was not. After collapsing and being resurrected about four times, the hapless paladin was finally dismembered and put permanently out of commission, not helped by one of the most appalling set of dice rolls it's ever been my misfortune to see.
