My friend, these are all just superb. I don't know if I'll ever get to use them as there seems to be an air of finality growing in my group that portends the end of a long, long run. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I fear I'm not.

A recent outing to a miniature golf course inspired me to quit the whole writing novels gig and take a job on the crew responsible for maintaining the water feature that surrounds the scale model castle on the 18th hole. Sure, the pay isn't great, but the work is 100% wee moat.

Fantasy NPC: Kharraghan The SKy-Fell, The Fallen Ghost.

Do not remind this dragon that he fell to his death while courting a dragoness...

I think you accidentally copy/pasted the description from your last post for this one. Though, a ghost dragon manifesting as a halfling in a scarf would be pretty amusing...

Ups. Missed that. Thank you.

I hope you can live with yourself after that, mister.

I was absolutely not expecting to find he was so small. What a great twist! And I can see him being the most arrogant dragon to have ever lived and completely undaunted in his plans.

It is not an arrogance, when you already conquered one world.

Initially, he was supposed to have gate ability to summon legions of his servants, but the swarm rules made them positively dangerous.

First two games of 2023, one PF2, one D&D 5e. Only one of us ended up on negative HP in the former, which meant it went great, and our Dwarven cleric got his super duper magic fiery hammer in the latter, so he's cock-a-hoop.

It's famine to feast here at Sweet Home Calabama! If everyone who's said they could attend the game this weekend (either in person or remotely) actually does we'll have twelve players, not counting yours truly. This would be the largest Pathfinder game I've GM'd in a very, very long time. I've sort of mentally readjusted some parts of the game already so there probably won't be a lot of PC to NPC roleplaying, given how crunchy combat in PF can be. But given the paucity of games we've gotten to play for so long, I'll make it work, dammit!

One of my players has noticed most of the disturbing, gross, nasty encounters are in products by the same lead developer.

HIM: Who hurt them?!
ME: Well, they're an RPG game designer so... everyone probably.

NICE!!

I've been illin' since Sunday evening. I take opioids for chronic pain, but I am bloody careful with them because I know exactly how wrong that stuff can go. I've been hooked on them before (long ago) and I remember just how damned awful I felt trying to kick them.

But the last few days I've felt EXACTLY the same way I did then. I take them twice a day, about 12 hours apart, and have done that for about ten years now. I know what to expect from too many of them and then stopping them. But I feel like complete crap. If you've never experienced it yourself, it's hard to describe. It's like your whole body wants to throw up, not just your stomach. Cold and flu aches pale in comparison to the aches one gets with withdrawal. It's honestly painful to touch my head because my hair follicles hurt.

I guess I'll have to buckle down and see my general practitioner doctor. I called my pain specialist but I can't get in before next Thursday. In the meantime, I guess I'll just flinch when I breathe...lol

Ouch.

I always feel a bit guilty for being grateful I don't have such issues to contend with, but I'm grateful all the same. I hope you get out of this intact.

Ach - hope that gets sorted, Cal.

Thanks, guys. It's 2:46 a.m. and I can't even begin to fall asleep because I feel so icky. So, I'm up and hiding my pain with food...LOL (eating from a jar of olives).

It will pass, I'm sure. Just how long it takes to do that is the part I don't like not knowing.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that, Cal. Hopefully it'll pass quickly.

Thanks, Q. I spoke to my pain management doc today and she said that opioids can eventually reverse their analgesic effect. Basically, the pain receptors that used to be turned off by taking opioids suddenly began to cause the pain they're supposed to inhibit. She told me to cut back on my dosage for a couple of days to see if a difference is made.

In the meantime....ack.

Sounds like your pain meds are committing treason. Bummer. Hope it clears up soon.

Thanks!

I finally am and thanks for asking! I'm still weak and tire easily, but the nonstop pain, which ranged from bad to worse, has gone. The brain fog is lifting, too, so I can start working on next weekend's game.

I'm pretty downhearted and sad, though. Not only have we lost a LOT of the "heroes" we grew up in the music and entertainment world this month, but I lost a good friend this past week to cirrhosis (he struggled with alcoholism most of his adult life and was in and out of rehab several times). The sad irony of his passing was he'd literally gotten certified to be a substance counselor himself a week before his death, but the damage had already been done to his liver. And I'm in a constant state of panic about the future of my place of residence because I literally have nowhere to go if a new buyer decides to raise the rent or not allow pets, and those are just a few of the things that could take place. I know I'm just borrowing trouble from the future, but the idea of living under a bridge with an old, sick dog and a goofy cat he despises doesn't appeal to me now...lol.

So, it's a mixed bag, but I am ever, EVER so grateful that feeling of opioid withdrawal has gone away. It no longer hurts to wear clothing so that will bring more peace of mind to people who drop by for visits.

I found out tonight my son and his girlfriend are going to try and purchase the duplex where I live. My landlord called them and offered it to them at a discount before he put it on the market. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried with relief. The deal is only getting started, but I'm hopeful for the first time in a month.

Ugh. I have the winter blues something bad. Anyone got something upbeat and encouraging to drive away the darkness and cold? Otherwise, I'm going to have to retreat into a cave and go all Gollum...
