I'm literally on the edge of hanging it all up, I think. We haven't played since November. I completely get we're middle-aged adults who have real world stuff to do. I have anxiety issues that get in the way sometimes. I had COVID for five weeks. But the last three weekends when folks said they would absolutely be available they flaked at the last minute.

It's discouraging. I have one player who is always enthusiastic and available to play anymore. I've tried PbP, I suck at it. I've tried online with other folks, I suck at it. And there is no way on God's green Earth I can join another in-person group after playing with this same bunch for almost 35 years. My panic disorder would kick in the afterburners and I'd not be able to function for a week. *turns and walks off, kicking a rock out of the way*

We finished Hell's Rebels last night. That was a journey, one I am sad to see end, but am happy to be able to start a new one or continue another.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. Last minute flaking is the worst, dammit.

Wish I had some wise advice or pithy joke, but I'm all out. All I can say is "Ugh, that sucks."

Also, to quote Scrubs, "People are bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling."

I didn't watch that show enough. There were some great lines from it.

Sorry, Cal. I took a break from RPGs for a while for a similar reason. If you're getting discouraged, you could reframe it as a break instead of hanging it up.

Have you told the rest of the group about how frustrated you are?

I'm sorry to hear that Cal. It's definitely been a roller-coaster here in similar ways for the past several months, we've played maybe four sessions since the beginning of the year despite nominally playing every weekend. You have all my sympathies.

I know what you mean. Starting up another game- even with the same group- is going to be a major challenge as we are all now officially middle aged and dealing with the things that come with it. It's a challenge and if you don't have the energy to deal with it you don't have the energy to deal with it. And that's okay.

See if you can find another way to be involved in the game. You have a lot to offer this hobby, and it doesn't have to mean being on one side of the screen or another.

My main group hasn't been consistent for years. When we do get on a roll we get derailed by life events for several months to a couple years at a time.

I get it.

I have only managed to gather my Legend Of Five Rings group only once this year. I GMed twice last year.

I could use a new group with their own place where I could chain them to gaming table and have them at hand to GM for them when I want to...

Reminds me of the bit in Restaurant at the End of the Universe about how difficult grammar for time travelers is...

I sent out a couple of emails today to the ones who've been shouting the most enthusiastic "We'll be theres!" then not following through and I'm waiting on replies. Depending on what I get back, I will probably end up doing so.

Given that you're *this close* to going into Special Measures, sunshine, your Removals are anything but Quality. C minus at best.

Go ahead. You need all the practice you can get, judging from what I've seen so far.

I love this. I've established fey as major players in my current campaign and would use this in a heartbeat, but since we haven't played since November and the last game ended in the setting's autumn at the gates of the ancient fortress they'd been searching for, I gotta wait.

Our Kingmaker game is in the First World at the moment. Last night we put paid to an enormous crow and an oversized mandragora.

I really could use it myself.

FYI, The link’s broken… the name sounds fascinating tho.

Argh. Of course I saw that after the one hour editing window passed...

Fantasy Monster: Clockwork Lullaby

I really need to use some clockwork "creatures" in my games. I've managed to steer away from my overuse of undead with this campaign by using Fey more often, but I think I might drop a wind-up robot into a game or two.

Ya know, there's really very little that the opening riff to "Highway to Hell" can't fix.

This is a copy/paste from a post I made in a different thread so if you've seen it twice I apologize.

I don't know who among us is of a religious nature or not and it's not important. I just ask that those who are say a prayer for my friend Eddie. He's been a friend for 30+ years and a gamer in my group for a very long time. He's one of the two guys who drive over from Memphis for our game nights (two and a half hours one way). Last week he had a third stroke and spent time in the hospital. He's younger than I am by a handful of years but has had three strokes in the last four or five. He'd made a lot of progress where his speaking ability was concerned and has now lost all of those gains. Plus he's not allowed to drive for the time being. He also lost a job of about twenty years a week before the stroke so his world has been rocked pretty hard.

So yeah, if you pray, send one up for Eddie. If you don't, cross your fingers or roll d20s for his recovery. Thanks, everyone.

Hang tough, Eddie.

Wishing him nothing but thr best. My wife's friend's husband just has his first stroke. He is besting the odds thus far, thankfully.

I spoke with Eddie yesterday and it turns out that this was his FIFTH stroke. During the conversation it was also apparent he'd forgotten about calling me last week, which is not a good sign.

I posted this on the relevant GM thread, but thought you all might find it amusing too:

War For the Crown Adventure Path:
Background: One of the key villains in this AP is Panivar Lotheed, a noble who became immortal 300 years ago and has been hiding in plain sight ever since.

ME: Within the safe are a variety of birth certificates, death certificates, newspapers, royal announcements, and travel documents dating back over the past 300 years. After studying them for some time, you realize the birth certificates (for men named Panivar Lotheed II-VI) are all forgeries, while the other papers all feature announcements and sketches related to six men bearing the same name and very similar descriptions…

PLAYER: So Panivar the First died and all the subsequent ones are fakes. The current Lotheeds aren't true nobles! We can take over their duchy now, since they're illegitimate!

ME: *facepalms in my heart*

OMG I am just guffawing. I needed this to get my day going. Give your player 2 extra XP just for that. But only 2.
