What devilish pact did you swear to be able to create such awesome things?

Today is the 11th anniversary of the passing of Ronnie James Dio, a person whose music had more impact on me than just about any other heavy rock artist. Hell, what am I saying? More than ANY artist. What I thought would be a two or three line mention on my Facebook page turned into a blog post.

Long Live Dio. Long Live Rock and Roll.

I was expecting a reference to the RPG Swords Without Master by Epidiah Rovochol, but then I remembered which gaming forum this is...

Still: Very cool!

So when I'm DMing for the nerdawans sometimes, right before they roll for an attack, I say in a total deadpan voice: "You can do it. I have full confidence in you." (Because smack-talking 13-year-olds is a perfectly cromulent thing to do).

The girl nerdawan's mother told me that this past weekend they were at her younger brother's baseball game. He goes up to bat.

"You can do it," the nerdawan says in a total deadpan voice. "I have full confidence in you."

"Where does she get this attitude?" her mother wondered to me. I must have gotten really shifty eyed and panic-sweaty because she instantly realized. "YOU!"

It's good to know that even though I have no children of my own, I'll be passing on at least a few bad habits loveable quirks to the next generation.

I used to toss out Leslie Nielsen's "Good luck. We're all counting on you" from "Airplane" at my son and his friends all the time. The first time he watched "Airplane" with me I was suddenly beset by daggers thrown at me from his eyes.

So we're playing Starfinder. And it's been hinted for months that the Grays are somehow involved. My character has developed a healthy paranoid phobia of the Grays. And, last night, for the first time they showed up. He's definitely freaking out. The Grays paralyze one of the party members, drug another nearly to death, and a third is having some kind of flashback/seizure thing. We're all wigging out about how badly we're going to get probed.

At that moment, IRL, all the power in my house goes out. There's a beat. In the pitch darkness, my friend says:

"Great. The damn Grays cut the power."

We all totally lost it.

Shhhh... shhhh... easy there...

I had to play a game by candlelight once when I was at a friend's house and a storm knocked a tree down on a power line. It was pretty cool, actually.

This is terrific, or as you young folk say, "This is fire!"

Now I will pick up my cane and hobble away.

The same thing that happens to everything else.

I ended up with a little extra cash this month so I treated myself to a new set of computer speakers. For the last 15 years, I've used a set of Altec Lansing speakers which are still good. But I've always wanted a set of speakers from Klipsch (which was started here in Arkansas in 1946 but is now headquartered in Indianapolis). Anyway, I did a search for computer speakers and a set by Klipsch showed up. They normally retail for up to $200 (and that's CHEAP for Klipsch speakers) but I got them on an insane sale for only $69. No longer will I have to listen to my neighbor "play drums" next door. Ever.

I can't ever go back to the Arby's restaurant nearest to my house. Ever. When the person at the window handed me my order she said, "Those fries are hot, hon."

I replied, "Thanks, you too!" I then whipped my head around and stared straight ahead and drove home cringing.

Oooo... ouch. Yeah, the old “thanks, you too.” I live under an assumed name in a different state because of that shame... almost as bad as the “high five to fist bump” gaffe :p

Ah, the life of the socially awkward... we need a placard or something. Maybe a t-shirt that says: “I may say weird stuff but thanks, you too.”

The slogan’s a work in progress.

Solidarity!

Brilliant!

This easily my favorite and not just because someone finally used an urumi!

you must whip it!

If you've got an urumi, you probably need to count all your potentially detachable parts after using it, just in case.

I suppose I shouldn’t be so hard on myself. I mean, the first jawed fish evolved ~400 million years ago and I *still* accidentally bite my damn lip every now and then. Clearly the whole game is rigged.

I love this. You based this off the photo floating around on the internet, right? Have you looked at it closely enough to see the family of Sasquatch in the rear on the left side of the image? LOL It's a bad Photoshop but a lot of people didn't see it at first.

Yes.

Nope.

That was the one with a piece of text that explicitly called the herd "Ghost Buffalos" (or maybe ghostly)?
