Totemic Feats + Shifter Interaction

Rules Questions

The obvious totem being the beast of pounce.

Questions however, the first I believe I know already and that's prerequisites you meet sometimes. Totemic Initiate, Disciple, and Master have a Str prerequisite ending at 17. If the Shifter's Str is only that high when using their Bull minor aspect, can they still take the feat? I think it's yes, but the feat can only be used while your Str is that high. The same as TWF feats on Brawlers with their Flurry, and Power Attack Barbarians with not enough Str.

Second question is the Beast Totem claws. Lesser Beast Totem gives you 2 claw attacks, though they are specific claws. How does that work with Shifter Claws? I presume the Shifter Claws would overwrite the Totem claws, however Natural Attacks in general talks about having as many attacks as your abilities grant. So would you wind up with 4 claw attacks? 2 from Totem, 2 from Shifter's? Or do your limited two arms limit you to two claw attacks?

Third question, though more a clarification. How many actions is it to activate all this? Swift for minor aspect, standard action for major aspect, end of first turn, swift for Totemic, charge turn 2?

Fourth, and more just clarifying. If you get +2 natural armor from Weretouched (or it could be race, either or), and then +1 per 4 levels from Totemic, do those stack or do you simply take the highest since they're the same type of bonus? I never remember which few bonus types are labeled as stacking, other than untyped, certain precision damage, and varying circumstance bonuses.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1) Brawlers are a specific exception, and only for TWF feats. Barbarians that don't qualify for power attack outside of rage can't take it. Similarly shifters that don't qualify outside of aspect cannot either.

2) Limited by limbs.

3) Swift for totem, swift for minor aspect, standard for major (unless you have shifter rush, then free as part of 10+ ft of movement or a charge). Ideally you'd activate totem, then charge while using shifter's rush to change into your major aspect and the next turn you activate your minor form. You thought you had a level 5 feat, but no, you have shifter's rush.

4) They do not, take the higher of the two.

willuwontu has a good handle on the situation. ^_^

The "obvious" solution is to have your other martial pal lend their Belt of Strength to you. Then after you've chosen the feat, give the belt back.
You won't lose the feat, and can benefit from it whenever your Bull aspect raises your strength.

But really, isn't the whole point of the Bull Aspect that you're not reliant on stat-boosting items? Seems counterintuitive that shifters can't use this enhancement bonus to qualify for feats.

I'm more annoyed that they're not permanent bonus for the aspects you select. Especially, given that one minor aspect provides bonuses to initiative, which means you need it up before combat begins, however the short duration of the aspects (the wis to duration feat is not worth picking up) means you only really utilize them during combat rather than when you are walking around exploring. This makes that form only worth getting for it's amazing major form (Deinonychus).
