New archetypes

Character Operations Manual Playtest General Discussion

In the first paragraph of the opening page, it lists that the final book will have new archetypes. Which is great.

But I didn't see any in the playtest document. So I guess that we are going to get them untested in the final book. But I also expect that they haven't been written yet.

So, what's the archetype wishlist that people have?

For myself, I would really, really like to see a spellcasting archetype or two.

Actually, I think it would blow up to about 6 archetypes since we now have three spell lists. I am thinking of having a magic hobbyist archetype for each of the three spell lists and a magic amateur for each spell list.

The magic hobbyist would only ever reach level 3 spells known and would have up to three spell slots per level. However, it would only cost a few of the level replacement slots for the archetype.

The magic amateur would get to level 4 spells known and get up to four spell slots for each level. It would also have more of a replacement slot cost.

And all of them would count as having class levels of the appropriate class for feats and such that reference it - like Connection Inkling and Technomantic Dabbler.

Something like that.

The Exchange

A medium archetype. A daily option of what spirit to bind with. Kinda like the adaptive fighting feat but your spirit determines the bonuses. Maybe choose new concepts instead of the mythic paths.

anonymity spirits (Operative)
data spirits (technomage)
Spirit loci (mystic)
Celestial songs (solarian)
Media spirits (envoy)
Machine ghost (mechanic)
Kaiju spirits (soldier)

I'd like to see more archetypes based on organizations like the Xenowardens, The Veskarium, More Starfindercentric ones, maybe a repoman from the Church of Adabar. Things on that line.

I think it would improve the system to have archetypes of classes, basically VMCs.

Scarab Sages

I'm interested to see how additional classes are going to effect the "one size fits all" concept of Starfinder archetypes. It's going to be a challenging design space.

Repo man. I love it.

I think that a treasure hunter would make a good theme. We have bounty hunter that I could houserule/tweak to make work, but having an actual treasure hunter theme would be cool. I don't think it would be enough to warrant an entire archetype though ... Until we get an Abadar Repossession Officer archetype. That could fill out an entire archetype.
