When do you think the first AP for the second edition will be announced? <3

IIRC, the August AP is usually announced at Paizocon at the end of May. Could be earlier as it's for the new edition but that would be the latest date I'd suggest.

But in May don’t they announce the AP for the NEXT year? Or was it for the current year?

For some reason, I was expecting the name of the AP in Gencon this year. I think I recall a pattern of announcing the August AP for the following year in Gencon. But I might well be wrong :)

Return of the Runelords (Fall 2018 AP) was announced at Gencon 2017. Tyrant's Grasp (Spring 2019 AP) was announced at PaizoCon 2018. P2 was "announced" (playtest started) at Gencon 2018.

I would expect the first P2 AP to get announced at a special event or something before February to keep their standard array of 8-12 month notice of products. That and I'm sure they need to start the ISBN # process early enough for their printers and resellers and what-not to begin adding them to their future products, etc. If they wait until PaizoCon, then the final AP will be half-way over, with no official word on something that is likely already in the QA/QC process with the print and layout depts., being 3 months away from street date.

If they are smart, they should concentrate on making PF2 a buyable product before announcing APs for that system. And I doubt, considering the current state PF2 is in, that we will see an AP announcement for PF2 in 2019.
Of course, if Paizo really thinks that PF2 works as it is, then yes APs could be announced in February but I still refuse to believe they don't know how much they would hurt themselves with the current iteration of PF2

You do know that they have stated multiple times that some parts of the play test may be for later books, and not the core rule book. And for pf1 about 1/3 of the more drastic changes didn’t make it to the final game, I don’t expect this to be any different. Heck they are on like their 10th death and dying rules, trying to find the best one.

My bad. That is right. They announced Return of the Runelords at Gen Con 2017 and Tyrant's Grasp at PaizoCon.

I agree some sort of special announcement around February would make sense. The Playtest was announced that way I think.

While PF2 is definitely looking rough, having an AP of some kind is really important to a working system. It really helps to understand a lot of stuff for adventure design an provides a baseline for what's "normal" in the system.

Is there a summary of what is looking so ropey about pathfinder 2?
I haven’t had opportunity to playtest and slipped away from the boards after a bunch of rules clarifications were released because I was getting confused and also couldn’t really judge fairly without playing

I saw they were consistently making changes and updates which seemed to show the right mindset ?

I don’t expect to derail this particular thread so could someone either PM or point me to the most relevant summary in their opinion (as I am sure there are loads)

I knew it was a radical move I just didn’t realise it warranted comments about it being in “a state”

Now that it is 2019, is there any information on what the first 2E Adventure Path will be?

I'm curious what direction Paizo will take for future storylines.

nope.

I'm hoping for something totally new and fresh, besides a new unknown area we havn't had an AP in yet for the kick off of PF2.

What is everyone else interested in as a theme and where you are most interested in taking place?

Me maybe something about Dragons, like helping a good/Neutral/chaotic or heaven forbin an evil one who might be having second thoughts on his evi; ways dragon out through out the AP as we hav'nt had that as of yet :)

Currently Paizo is busy finalizing the PF2 core rules and are thus mostly radio silent. We've been promised once that's done that they are going to start on previews and be more candid. So I would assume we'll work in a preview of the first PF2 AP around then.

But earlier in the playtest process a dev did comment that there are a lot of plot threads and areas where Paizo was approaching the SOGOTP stage (Razmiran? Galt?), so it wouldn't be wholly surprising if the first AP is about some part of the Inner Sea that we haven't been to but has had a crisis brewing for about 10 years. Particularly if it's one where you can populate it with core classes, ancestries, and one bestiary.

Last I recall seeing, James Jacobs was still favouring keeping dragons special and memorably distinct in ways that preclude them being the focus of an AP that way; I am greatly looking forward to Legendary Games getting around to Rage of Wyrms, though, which was sounding like it would thoroughly scratch the dragon-focused AP itch.

There was a recent Pathfinder Friday Twitch stream, probably the one about the Darklands, where James Jacobs mentioned he was doing some research on the derro, so if I had to place a bet, I'd wager that the first PF2AP will have something to do with them.

My guess is we will hear about the first AP for second edition at PaizoCon.

should be before that - the game trade magazine for late July/Early August should be in stores in mid-March, so I would expect us to hear something in the next 3 weeks.

Darklands makes sense since the question for the 1st AP is basically "where can we set this where there needn't be any Witches, Oracles, Inquisitors, Gunslingers, Aasimar, etc." In the Darklands most of the NPCs you encounter would be bestiary creatures, so won't need class and ancestry rules to support them.

Which is just to say "there are certain corners of Golarion we can't really set an adventure in with just the core rules"- after all, it's not exactly Irrisen without Witches.

Maybe its the Midnight Dawn AP? That would start in Varisia in Magnimar(so good time to show case effects of 1e APs) and it would take party to Darklands and Ilvarandin eventually

Captain Yesterday deserves a medal for commitment.

Shadow Lodge

Galt, but only if the godawful, on-the-nose name is abolished. And possibly given to Druma.

I mean, the longer we go before revealing "what evil force is driving Galt's endless Terreur, the more evil whatever it is has to be.

Let it go too much longer and we're heading into like "Rovagug is a Gray Gardner" territory.

Didn't somebody say fairly recently that it was a conqueror worm (from Bestiary 6), or am I misremmbering?

i doubt anyone from Paizo would confirm that w/o it being in a playable adventure... BUT ... that sure does make a lot of sense...

I guess we'll know if the premise of a new adventure path is "Galt invades somebody". Sure feels like there are a lot of parts of Avistan which are on the verge of not-existing in the near future: Galt, Lastwall, Nirmathas, Razimiran,...

I'm hoping for Razmir Must Die!

Last friday's stream had James Jacobs spilling some hints about the first AP. They're pretty vague (rather intentionally I think. Particularly the first two sounds a bit like him just playing around:

    * An early encounter involves something catching on fire
    * Involves something in a dungeon
    * A location on a hill that isn't a new location, but hasn't been detailed before
    * "Maybe goblins, going on, sort of?"

He said that should be enough for someone to get it, but I'm not sure if that was just a joke or serious. I don't know. I think the location on a hill that's known but hasn't been detailed is probably the hint that will help the most. Here's the bit where he mentions it.

Agreed. I've said this a few times before. A Razmir focused AP would be great. But I think he's too good of a part of the setting to eliminate, so I'd prefer he not be deposed or killed, which would be the most logical thing for an AP to focus on. I do think there could be a few ways to do it. It could be a straight up evil AP with you on his side (not my preference. Don't like evil adventures, my experience is that they encourage party strife and will often get into things very uncomfortable for many people). It could be the PCs grudgingly working with him to stop a bigger evil. It could be only tangentally related to him, like something set in Razmiran, but you end up doing something other than taking out Razmir. Maybe the big bad is one of his lieutenants and not him. Maybe he ascends to actual godhood, and is therefore out of reach.

There's also some curveballs that might be thrown. Particularly because of the mask thing. Maybe Razmir retired or died years ago and someone else took over the persona. We could be on the 3rd or 4th "Razmir". So if you take out Razmir then maybe you'll also help a new Razmir take over, maybe even a PC. I call this the Dread Pirate Razmir theory. Or maybe there never was a Razmir at all, it's actually a persona created by an organization to be the face of their Religion/racket. In which case, maybe the PCs can cripple the organization but not quite remove it from power. Or maybe Razmir is something else. Like a shape-shifted dragon or a devil or something.

i mostly play Starfinder, and I would love for the old coot to be still kicking around in the far-future.

The Pathfinder character I would most like to see show up in Starfinder is Ramoska Arkminos,

So, on the Paizo Twitter feed, there's an art piece that teases the special announcement tomorrow on the OfficialPaizo Twitch channel. I'll direct your attention towards the empty space on the right side of that pic.

Oblivion Oath sounds very APish.

Could be Starfinder though, as they have announced the title of the AP starting in August for Starfinder, but have not solicited any of the volumes.

I think Misroi is right, although it seems funny to me that Jason Bulmahn is announcing it rather than James Jacobs (there’s a specialtwitch tomorrow at noon).

Yeah, the Starfinder Wednesday stream also more or less outright said it was Pathfinder related. I could be wrong on all of this, of course, but it's a fairly safe bet. It could be a new CRPG from OwlCat or something for all we know.

good catch.

hmm... stock art doesn't sound right if it's got that watermark.

so... hmm...

the art would suggest something undead-y. BUT... we will have just done that with Tyrant's Grasp.

My guess? hmm... Urdefhans/Underdark/Abaddon. It's similar in terms of villains, (sorta? guess we don't really know yet...) but wildly different in terms of setting and larger villains.

We'll see. I'm excited.

We'll be announcing the first 2E Adventure Path pretty soon. I'm expecting to finish development of the first adventure this week, in fact. It's NOT Oblivion Oath though—that's something different that we'll be talking about soon as well. Stay tuned!

:o Well I'm hyped to learn what Oblivion Oath is. But I really do love word "Oblivion". Its kinda up in the "Dramatic things villains say they will do to PCs" top ten ratings

maybe a 2nd 'playtest' style book? but for the new system?

that actually might be pretty fun. encourage a party to create new characters, run through multiple levels, etc.

Oblivion Oath is the live-play stream that Jason Bulmahn willl be DMing, starting in early April. It was announced today on the "special announcement" stream.
