I'm new and a tad confused...

Online Campaigns General Discussion

I've just joined and was thinking of doing play by post... But I don't know how to exactly... But I know I want to start with something short and simple... Just to try it out ya know?

Check out the recruitment forum. You can do the following:

#1) Reply to any recruitment thread.
Fair warning - the more popular GMs will get lots of applicants and will need to say "yes" to some and "no" to many.

#2) Reply to the Open Call... GMs Stop By... thread.
You won't necessarily get a reply from a GM here, but I did my first or second day on the site. I've also contacted players who replied to that thread, and if I didn't have 7 players now, I'd look there again.

Hint - for me at least, I want a player who is open to more than just an official Pathfinder AP. But I'm kinda new myself, so I can't tell you what other GMs look for.

I specifically invited one player simply because she wanted to try out the vigilante class which is perfect for my game. So it can't hurt to specify your favorite genre or preferred class. (A least I don't think so!)

Look HERE. Three of the top four Sticky posts pertain to PbP, both for players and GMs.

However to sum it up:

1) Look at the recruitment posts for games, HERE till you find one that you are interested in, and are still open for new submissions.

2) In the 1st or 2nd post (usually) in the thread, the GM will give guidelines / rules on how to create characters for submission. Follow this to the letter!

3) Keep up with the thread, especially if the GM has questions on your character, and also for the "drop dead" date for submissions, and when s/he will announce the lucky few to get in.

4) Don't give up. Expect to not get into the first few (dozen?) that you apply for since there are significantly more players than GMs.

To add one more suggestion... if you're open to playing Pathfinder or Starfinder, then Pathfinder Society or Starfinder Society could be a good way to start. They offer relatively short, self-contained scenarios that are likely to be an easier way to jump into play-by-post than a full campaign. Organized play isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's worth giving it a shot.

If you're interested, feel free to drop in at the Flaxseed Lodge (for Pathfinder) or Castamir's Station (for Starfinder) and introduce yourself. You can also PM me with any questions about it.

Silver Crusade

PFS or SFS is a great way to establish a solid posting history, which will make it easier to get accepted into an adventure path later. It's far easier for a newbie to get into an organized play game.
