So, I am looking to potions for a concept build and I keep seeing adhesive spittle and I am wondering... Can it be made into a potion?
By RAW I think it can. It is low enough level (1st) and it targets one creature. Both meet the requirements of brewing a potion. But is the one creature it is referring to the one who gets hit by the spittle or the one who is spitting? I'm curious what others think of this situation. Thanks.
Good question. I'm inclined to say that it is SUPPOSED to be a "personal" range spell, that grants a tanglefoot spittle effect. Going by the spell as written...technically, you would target someone, regardless of who is targeted, YOU gain the spittle ability, and then you can make the tanglefoot attack. As potions are considered cast by their target, it would effectively close the odd loophole of targeting someone else but granting you the effect, turning it back into the personal spell it ought to be. Except that it can go in potions.
rules as intended? you spend a standard to drink the potion, and the target you can spend a standard to spit at (another standard, which is why you dont see this as a touted strategy) is the target of the spell. Rules as written? murkier.
my two copper. I've dealt with this with an alchemist who used it.
The drinker of a potion is both the effective target and the caster of the effect (though the potion indicates the caster level, the drinker still controls the effect).
Agreed that it's not written well, but as written you would only be able to spit at yourself, as the target of the spell is the creature at which you are spitting. This is dumb, so I recommend not playing it that way.
