We are going to start Part 3 this week, which is explicitly trying to see how well Channel Energy gets you through fights, and 1.6 just slashed the channel uses dramatically. That COULD make it very useful to test the change, but unless the survey adds a "Update 1.6" answer to the appropriate question, that data is probably lost.

Good point. My groups are running behind on the survey (we're still running 1.4) but will be tackling a new section soon (using 1.6) so updating this is important.

I can vouch that having less channel uses WILL dramatically impact chapter 3. Only one of my players was willing to play a cleric, so I waived the requirement that there be two in the party. I ended up having to skip wave 4 because the cleric and party at large were basically out of resources after wave 3, and I felt testing the actual boss was more important.

I'm actually taking a new group through part 3 as well, specifically because of the changes to channel to see how they handle it. And would love to be able to provide appropriate feedback based off the update 1-6. So yeah agree I think they should be able to modify that question without much issue and would like to see it done.


I'm not even sure if I'm gonna use the 1.6 channel rules. Feels like I'd be yanking the rug out from under my cleric players for this part. I'm probably going to let them decide. Those two are actually pretty down for deadly combat and risking the lives of their characters, so they might be cool with it.


It's a great opportunity to test the limit of the new channels though.

Perhaps give them the 1.6 channels but if they burn through all of them immediately or well before the end of the part, you might go ahead and allow them to have the extra 3 channels.

It's going to be interesting to see how often they want to use the channels now though. Since clerics had so many before the update they could use them back to back to back. But with the change will that cause cleric players to be more conservative with them or are they still inclined to quickly use them. That's the question im looking to find the answer for.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes for you.

This! So much this! We just got through chapter 1, but the survey only allowed update doc 0 through 1.3 in the survey, when we actually ended up using 1.5 (the newest when we started)

There wasn't any field I could have added it in as a comment either, so now they have incorrect data from me due to how the survey was made. :(

I think it depends on the players. We used the 1.6 rules when I ran part 3 (we haven't quite finished it yet) and I had to give the ONE cleric they have her 3+ channels back because even with having fewer channels, she started popping them like candy. And why is there only one cleric? Because no one listened to me when I said they needed two. So now I have 5 players, two of which are Enervated (one of which is the Cleric), everyone but the one Bard(who is only Enfeebled 2) is Enfeebled 4 (i think two are Enfeebled 5) about to fight the boss. It's gonna be fun.
