CR readvisement?

Advice

I have a monster that's ended up being recurring in my campaign, that's ripped the hell out of my pc's every time he's shown up. He's suppose to be CR 3, but has been far more dangerous every time and I was wondering if anyone could advise on what his CR actually was now that he's finally dead;

CR1 guard(NPC statblock) with the Broken Soul template.

I fear this may be the wrong forum, here is for the Pathfinder 2.0 Playtest.

As to your monster I'm afraid can't help too much. I will say always be leery of the CR adjustment of a template, there are many potential factors that can make it WILDLY inaccurate. I am unfamiliar with this template so I can't help spefically.

I was going to say, CR's for traps and monsters etc, simply does not exist in the playtest. Inside the playtest that system is different and is calculated differently, as is described in the playtest beastiary.

Hard to say. The Broken Soul has DR 5 and resist energy 5, which is minor to a high level group but could be a major obstacle for a low level party. It can inflict Drain with a gaze attack, which is a low level party has no way of curing. So rewarding the party as though they defeated a CR5 creature isn't unreasonable.
