Green Scourge Druid and the Oaken Staff

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

Hi!

I'm trying to put together a Green Scourge Druid, and I'm trying to figure out how Nature's Armaments work on the Oaken Staff.

Natures Armaments allows the druid to turn spell slots into Shillelagh's, but as the druid levels, the Shillelagh add a greater bonus to the staff.

The Oaken staff can be targeted by Shillelagh, unlike most magical staves. However, it says that when it is targeted, it's enhancement bonus increases by 1.

I have several theories on what happen when a high level spell slot is cast on the Oaken staff:

1: The Oaken Staff deals 2d6 + 1(from the staff)+(The bonus from a high level Shillelagh)

2: The Oaken staff deals 1d6 + 1 + (The bonus from a high level Shillelagh)

3: The Oaken staff deals 1d6 + 1 + 1 (If high level Shillelagh only add +1 to the staff)

Which one is right?

Thanks!

Green Scourge

Oaken Staff

Shillelagh

I'd let the enhanced shillelagh from the class add to the oaken staff.

The Oaken Staff has an enhancement of +1.
Shillelagh provides an enhancement of +1.
Together, they make the oaken staff have an enhancement of +2.

This is clearly a specific rule that overrides the normal stacking rules.

If I use a 3rd level slot for the Natures Armaments, then I would get a Shillelagh +3 effect. [+1 flame merciful, or +2 flame, or +3, or anything that is +3 equivalent.] Let's choose +3.

Since the item overrides the standard rule, you would wind up with a +4 oaken staff. Damage of 2d6+4.

I have been looking at the Shillelagh Spell more than I probably should have for character concepts which I was hoping to evoke in one of my future characters. Ultimately, I've given up due to having too many character concepts and not enough time for 2e, and ultimately Paizo no longer supporting 1e Content or Leagues.

That being said, to my findings:
1) The Green Scourge archetype changes the functionality of Shillelagh, but the spell still counts as "Shillelagh" for all functionality purposes.

2) Oaken Staff's ability states: "Shillelagh can be cast on an oaken staff despite it being a magic quarterstaff, increasing its enhancement bonus by 1." So while under the effects of Shillelagh, it gains a +1 enhancement on top of the effects of Shillelagh.

Ultimately, at least as it was since the last time I researched this combination for my own build, the Shillelagh + Oaken Staff from a Green Scourge is as followed:

* 2d6 + (X+1) + 1: X = The Spell Slot used for Green Scourge archetype.

Hope this helps!
