Aasimar error +2 cha

General Discussion

The aasimar for his stat boost only has +2 to charisma listed. Is this supposed to be +4 maybe?

I’m liking the alien archive but I’m finding quite a bit of stuff I think should’ve been caught by quality assurance testing.

You guys have posted most of this so I’m not going to repeat but the aasimar issue hasn’t been posted.

No, every race (more or less, anyway) has a net +2 for racial attributes. If anything it's missing another +2 and -2, but a fixed +2 is perfectly legal, if really bad compared to the floating +2 that humans get.

Why on lost Golarion would it be a +4?

Most races have a net +2 bonus. This is no different, and was clearly the intended, balanced result.

My bad, I was looking through the other races after the orc looking for OP stuff to not allow my players to use and spoke too soon. Thanks guys

You actively go looking for things NOT to allow? That sounds like a really jaded way to go about things.

I let the players pick whatever they want, but if it's not core, it's gotta go through me first in the form of a casual character sheet inspection. Saves me a lot of time as I only need to check the things they are actively planning on using. If anything seems amiss, it also affords me the opportunity to ask the player what their plans are for [the thing or things]. This opens up an adult discussion and doesn't leave the social "bad taste" that auto-banning things often does.

I actively look for things that are wrong yeah. I think it’s already been mentioned that the orc race is going to have a faq correction. I allow everything unless there is a reason not to allow it like it being an error.

Just like how I made an error in my reading and was corrected and now it is fixed.

Clearly the Aasimar racial bonuses are +Con -Con +Cha.

Wait what's wrong with orcs; don't they have the standard +2 net bonus to attributes (+4 Str -2 Cha)?

the racial trait that grants what is effectively the 1st level benefit of a second theme. I dont think it's that bad, but that's an opinion.

I was surprised hobgoblins went with the +2 dex instead of +dex +con -something else. Always felt that hobgobins having a +2 +2 with no drawback was a mistake. As in, a poor decision on the part of the designers, not an actual error.

Honestly a static +2 cha probably wouldn't have been my solution to the aasimar problem. I get why they don't want to give aasimars an ability penalty but I probably would have gone with a floating +2, either to any or a select number of ability scores rather than just charisma.

Could it be that some races have evolve differently in Starfinder? For instance, you can now play as a Small ghoran (sapling), where in Pathfinder, ghorans were Medium only, by standards.

If hobgoblins are concerned, it's about their appearance: they now look like oversized goblins instead of "human-like goblins".

Yeah but they addressed the Ghoran thing as genetic engineering.

And the hobgoblin appearance thing is apparently just a general retcon; they look like oversized goblins in PF 2e, as well, with no explanation.

Yes hobgoblin are a recon in PF2e, but they don't have to be in Starfinder. I can imagine a plague targeting hobgoblin passing through Golarion, but goblins were immune. In a move of brutal efficiency the hobgoblin started a breeding program that involved creating hybrid goblins/hobgoblin. Very careful breeding was chosen to bring about as many of the hobgoblin traits as possible and this is the end result
