How to Train your Squox

Advice

Among other things in the Alien Archive 2 is details on the half-squirrel, half-fox creatures creatively named Squoxes. There are rules in their entry in the book detailing how to train them, and even a feat that gives PCs extra benefits for having a trained Squox companion.

So, what kind of things can a PC do with a Squox companion? Who gets the most benefit from having a little buddy? Is it even adviseable to train a Squox?

It could probably be used for many of the same things an unseen servant can. You can find threads here and on the Pathfinder boards that talk about just how awesome that is.

Off the top of my head, a well-trained squox could probably...

...reload your gun for you, saving you on actions.
...grab the key to your cell.
...disable a security camera before you walk out into the open.
...set off a trap or traps (squox's have improved evasion and are cheap to replace)
...cause a distraction.
...scare civilians into thinking it has rabies.
...manipulate a simple mechanism (such as a switch to a really big bomb that is strapped to it)
...lead an alien carnivore away from your camp.
...lead a bounty hunter tracking you in an entirely wrong direction.
...bring medical aid from an ally to you (such as a magical healing drought that it can easily pour over you)
...hold light sources when your hands are occupied
...carry additional weapons or magic items to be wielded and switched out by you or others as needed.
...steal incriminating evidence from the evidence locker or the law enforcer's patrol car.
...carry your wedding ring down the isle.
...rub your feet, back, or other problematic area.
...loot bodies on the battlefield.
...stand watch and sound an alarm when something threatening approaches.
...snatch up a disarmed enemy's weapon or device.
...fan you with a fan.
...bring a thrown weapon back to you (whether or not it is yours).

That's all I got for now, but I'll add more as I come up with them. I hope it helps! :D

Some sources for inspiration might include the classic Beast Master films, or the more recent Voltron reboot on Netflx (there was an alien operative with an alien cat-thing that did all sorts of stuff for her).

. . .several of those choices would have me giving the players Evil Points, potentially threatening an alignment change. :p

What we need is a gun that fires Squoxes.

Bonus points if you're playing an orc.

I would mount some cameras on it, for reconnaissance purposes. And try and train it to detect explosives and other detectable stuff. Also to bring me a cold intoxicant lol

One does not train a squox.
One is trained by a squox

Misread that as BEING a thrown weapon.
