Do PCs actually recieve double rewards?

Pathfinder Society

So I GMed my first Scenario (First Steps Part I) about a week ago. It went ok but I need to work on "GM from a pre-created scenario" skills as I'm more of a free floater kind of GM.

Unfortunately every died so I'll be running it again for their new characters and decided to review my perfomance to fix some of the things that I missed and/or screwed up.

After reviewing the material again I noticed that the PCs are give gold rewards for each task. It was my assumption that this was the gold reward for completing the scenario (because if you add up all the task rewards, it equals the max gold scenario reward). That got me to thinking ...

If the PCs get that gold after completing the task, and spend it during the adventure for consumables (say potions), then use the potions (say in the final battle) ... when they get their chronicle sheets with the max gold listed, aren't they actually being rewarded twice? Or am I to not give out the task gold reward?

Gold rewards are included in the scenario total. In the case that they don't complete everything (like by TPKing mid-adventure), then you would subtract what they missed from the mission gold total. That gold may matter later on, when people can afford to buy a Raise Dead using some of that money.

Also, if they spent gold, they should be marking it on their "Items Bought" box on their chronicle sheet, thus taking it out of their reward money. If they find a potion though, they can use it for free during the scenario then buy it later.

I understand that they should be using the "Items Bought" if they use money they receive mid scenario but (in the case of First Steps Part I) when the scenario max gold from the chronicle sheet doesn't equal the total possible gold available ... what do you do? Do you add it to the Max gold total?

In First Steps Prt I, the Max Gold equals the amount of the gold reward from the various tasks. It does not include gold found on NPCs that might be killed or looted (such as Auntie Baltwin who carries an extra 30 gold).

I'm pretty sure you can't get more than the maximum rewards listed on the chronicle, no matter what you might rob or loot during the course of the scenario.

Any gold or gear that you might find on a looted body should be incorporated into the reward amount at the end of that Act of the scenario. Basically, it's what the party would get if they looted/found everything there was to get, sold it all on the market, and split it.

No, those amounts dont get added to the Max gp reward at the end of the scenario, like Hogarth said.

The gold listed on the chronicle sheet is the max reward for the scenario. You cannot exceed that except with the day job role which is technically not part of the scenario rewards, but a separate mechanic that is just resolved at the end of play and recorded on the chronicle.

As others have said, if the PC's bypass/miss parts of the scenario that reward partial gold/items, those should be deducted from the max gold at the end. However, in my experience, most GM's do not reduce the gold reward except in cases where the PC died. YMMV.

Technically, the GM should record the treasure as it is gained. At the end, compare that to the max gold on the chronicle and use the lower value. But again, I rarely see a GM doing this.

They still get the gold, but you list everything they bought, and that's subtracted from their total. No doubling up.

Often I've found unless they missed a very lucrative part, that they often are over cap even if they spent some of the "plot gold".

Strange. In all the scenarios I have run, I haven't seen any PFS scenarios with over-cap gold, unlike LG, where it was not just the norm, but could be more than enough for multiple Raises...
